Yup... 13 years to release a sequel? Wonder what kind of dust ups occurred along the way.

Found this which sheds some light if accurate:

I’m sure the storyline will be as creative and original as the first one.

Judging solely by the trailer, it seems to be literally the first one--just in a different setting and with a different hero creature for the protagonist to conquer.

I still don't understand all the love for the first one. It was OK, decent popcorn movie, but nothing I needed to see twice or wanted a sequel for

The first one was dances with wolves with aliens. Not too original.

This would have to be one hell of a story to get me interested. I’ve seen plenty of CGI landscapes now so that’s not a draw for me. So tired of this stuff.

So I’m skeptical too.

Actually, I read that one reviewer called it "Dances with Smurfs"

I am in this room except, after buying the movie because of the hype, I think I might have watched it twice, maybe?

Cannot say I will do the same (buying the movie) this time. Might borrow it from some fanboy / fangirl but otherwise, nah.

YES Iron Chef - if you have seen Ferngully, you have seen Avatar to a certain degree.

I'd call the first one amazing 3d visuals, very previously done but reasonably watchable plot. If my kids want to see it I'll do it in 3d and be oooh'd and aaah'd.
