TCM in trouble with Warner Bros. Discovery? Login/Join

Been seeing internet items about layoffs at Warner Brothers Discovery hitting top execs at Turner Classic Movies, and that TCM might be in some jeopardy. Y’all have any more insight? We are among those who enjoy TCM.

I watch TCM a lot but I can think of a whole bunch of people that need to be let go at TCM.

Good thing for the DVR though. I used to really enjoy Robert Osborne but haven't listened to any of the drivel coming out of the replacements to date.

Good. I hate the motherfuckers. Hate 'em, and I mean that, most sincerely.

After the death of Robert Osborne, the people at TCM turned it into a leftist shithole. All their hosts are leftists, gay, POC, whatever.

Robert Osborne was gay. Didn't know that, did you? Do you know why? Because he kept it to himself, and he kept his politics to himself, but when you have people like former Young Turks staffer Ben Mankiewicz hosting, they shove their leftist shit in our faces all the time. And now they're celebrating Pride Month. Just who do these idiots think is watching their channel?

I doubt it would go away, but anything is possible. What it would mean, I suppose, is the catalog of movies owned by TCM's parent company would be sold, or they would find a new venue for them.

Last year, the first cracks appeared. For about two decades, TCM had a discussion forum, and you've never seen such a horde of sniveling leftist pukes in your life.

For its first few years, the administrators prohibited political discussion, which is appropriate for a film discussion forum. But, at one point, they decided to change that policy in late 2008. Do you know why? Barack Obama got elected, and WHEEEEEEEE! the party was on. Oh, but in 2016, evil Orange Man invaded the White House and the "General Discussion" section of that forum became a battle ground, and I was in there and giving those motherfuckers Hell.

Last October, TCM abruptly announced they were shutting the forum down, and I laughed myself into a coughing fit, watching all those commies cry their fucking eyes out. The completely biased moderation of political discussion in that place made it a genuine pleasure to watch it die.

So, they archived much of the forum's content, but for some reason, they did not archive anything from 2016 on. A blind man could see it. Even in death, they had no courage, no desire for fairness or the truth.

So, as much as I love easy access to vintage films, I will be glad to see it go, since the people who run the place have run it into the ground with their leftist horse shit. The movies are for everyone, but they don't care, so fuck 'em.

They may survive, but then again, maybe not. How many times have we heard execs voice a "commitment" one day, and the next thing you know, they're shuttering a place?

I've got other sources for film, and at this point in my life, there is very, very little I haven't seen in the way of film, so, burn, baby, burn.

We used to have TCM, until our cable service started to charge a separate rate for it. We now watch the Movie! channel, similar to TCM, but with commercial breaks, and without the annoying monologues and hosts. Lot of noir films, older classics. Right now, The Big Steal is on, followed by Suddenly with Frank Sinatra. Here's today schedule.

This is our favorite channel to watch, we actually DVR the films and view them later while skipping the commercial breaks.

In that article, they talk about restructuring. What that should mean is- movies only. No hosts. Play movies, back-to-back. One movie ends, another begins. No filler material which is shown over and over and over. Roll Eyes There's no need to start films at the top or half or quarter hour. Just about everyone time-shifts with a DVR these days.

No fucking "film festivals" or "TCM cruises". No Goddamned "TCM Wine Club". I mean, really Roll Eyes

If lack of revenue is the issue, they could save scads of money by getting rid of all hosts and all of the support staff for those hosts. No cameramen, sound men or studio sets, nothing. Just play the fucking films. That is the ONLY reason people tune in, you bunch of self-absorbed, roadblocking leftist ninnies!

Just take a look at the year end "TCM Remembers" and you'll see they are selective in who they share.

Martin Milner died back in 2015 and nairy a mention of his passing. Milner had been in movies and programs since the 1940's...

...but they will mention a film splicer from BFE who no one has ever heard of!

Here's what TCM got from me just now:

I love film and for years I have loved TCM, and it is for these reasons that I now wish for TCM to be a thing of the past. News of your "restructuring" has heartened me, because since the departure of Robert Osborne, leftist loudmouths like Ben Mankiewicz have been shoving their politics down viewer's throats. Film is supposed to be for everyone, but that's not how the powers-that-be at TCM feel. I am sick and tired of being marginalized and vilified as a conservative American male.

The closure of your discussion forum was merciful, as its clumsy and completely biased moderation of political discussion (which never have should been allowed) ruined the place by its diviseness and obvious lack of fairness.

And now, I see that TCM is on the brink of being "reorganized" and I hope this means that all hosts will be removed, and TCM will do one thing only: air films, and nothing but films; no commentary, no leftist bias, none of the things which have served to degrade what was once a movie channel for ALL viewers. I cannot fully and adequately express my contempt for what TCM has become and I hope all of it but the catalog of classic films, disappears into dust.

^^^ I hope you are right.
Somehow I don't think they will get the "get woke, go broke" message.
More like "BlackRock Rules". Frown
I watch the channel quite a bit too as in a general sense these movies themselves are not infected with the disease that is perpetuated upon every film and TV show made today.
God Speed for a healthy TCM reorganization.

They need to give the endless references to "the blacklist" a rest.
It was in the 1950s. Roll Eyes Let it go and show the movie! The only thing on TCM I now enjoy is Noir Alley.

That's not what's going on and that's not what I am saying is going on, nor was it my concern.

TCM is not profitable. If it could be profitable with their leftist attitude on full display, they would be fine to leave the channel as is. If they get rid of the hosts, it won't be out of concern for their leftist views or all the bullshit identity games they play; it will be because they can save money by doing so. The loss of the constant drumbeat of the left would be merely incidental, and not done in an effort to do the right thing by recognizing that a substantial percentage of their audience is on the political right. They don't care about that. Appeasing those they have derided, discounted and abused will not put money in their pocket, because TCM is bundled, whether one uses a cable service or a streaming service.

Yes, this has long been an obsession with TCM hosts- mainly Mankiewicz and Muller. They simply cannot pass up any chance to reference the Blacklist.

I've got news for those guys- there were communists in Hollywood, before, during and after WWII. The only problem was the fanatical, grandstanding alcoholic shithead Joseph McCarthy, who turned this reality into a shameful, farcical three-ring circus.

The people at TCM completely ignore the existence of a modern-day blacklist in Hollywood, against anyone who dares to not ride the insane PC train. Forget about conservatives. Anyone who doesn't toe the party line must be eradicated. Everyone knows it, but this reality simply does not exist at TCM. Disgusting.

So, that's why I say I hope the whole fucking thing gets taken apart. That catalog of films has value and will not be shelved, so they will end up being aired somewhere.

If you don't think the people at TCM are screwed-up in the head, take a look at their programming tonight.

In the prime slot, they had the 1995 documentary The Celluloid Closet. No problem there. Pride Month and all that stupid shit. It's a documentary about the depictions of homosexuals over the decades of Hollywood. If you've not seen it, it's worth watching.

But, how twisted are the people doing the programming, and how clever they must think themselves to be, by airing Hitchcock's Rope immediately following this documentary.

For those not familiar, Rope is based upon the Leopold and Loeb Murder Case, where two homosexual lovers murdered a 14 year old boy for no reason other than to do it and because they thought themselves to be intellectually superior. How's that for a shining depiction of homosexuality during Pride Month?

After that, TCM continues its smirk at its viewers with The Children's Hour, based upon Lillian Hellman's play of the same name, in which a scandal occurs at a private boarding school for girls, due to a student accusing two teachers of having a lesbian affair, when in fact, it wasn't true. After the truth is revealed, one of the two teachers confesses that even though she never acted on it, she was gay and did desire the other teacher, and then she hangs herself.

Needless to say, these are not positive depictions of homosexuals. Don't misunderstand what I'm saying. The programmers at TCM are all for Pride Month and everything it entails, but they are thumbing their noses at us.

If you don't think so, check out their programming for July 4th. A couple of short films about the Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence- starting at 4:45 AM, and then nothing about the holiday until 10:45 PM- 1776- a comedy musical. Oh, they've got Cagney in Yankee Doodle Dandy at 8 PM, but if you know the film, you'll know it has little to do with Independence Day. This is not a programming schedule made by people who love this nation and honor Independence Day. They do this kind of thing all the time.

Then, the next day- the 5th, all day, until 8PM, we've got commies, Russians, Red Chinese, and spies. That's no coincidence.

They're thumbing their fucking noses at us, guys, and they pull this shit all the time. You just have to pay attention and you'll see it.

I hope they crash and burn, really, I do.
