For me that’s got to be Jeff Porcaro. What a drummer.

Prince.

It took me a while to figure out how good he really was. It's still taking me a while to actually "like" his music.
I'm just not that into that genre of music. But he was a damn good musician!

Jeff Beck. I guess he was too ethereal for me. Indeed, an incredible musician, but I could never listen to a whole album.

For me, it is another guitar player, Carlos Santana. Yes, I do recognize he is a very talented guitarist, but I was never fond of his music, and I was not a fan of his sound, the lines he played, etc.

The same with a lot of "shredders"; with the exception of Edward Van Halen and a couple of others, these players were technically talented, but the music they put out- yech. Whitney Houston- she was an incredible singer, the real deal, but not a fan of her music. At the end of the day, it is the music, songwriting and overall sound that has to move me, not the technical brilliance.

Les Paul.

I think the issue is "do you like their Genre of Music?"

^^^ As mentioned above ~ for me I couldn't understand not liking Jeff Beck, Carlos Santana or Frank Zappa if you are into that Genre (which I most definitely am). Cool

Santana and Jeff Beck both on my list. I actually like Santana's style of music (rock/latin fusion) I just don't like Santana's playing or tone.

I'm a drummer but basically can't stand Rush or really any prog rock or metal.

No, it isn't with me.

Yes, I'm not a fan of Santana, but I love Jeff Beck, along with Robin Trower, Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page, etc. I like Nirvana and Soundgarden, but I don't like Pearl Jam. I love Van Halen, but can't stand Bob Jovi.

and Steve Vai,

saw him live a few years ago,
not really that great, just fast playing and seemed like up and down the fret board,

yet, when he did Robert Frip's parts on the Beat tour, he was fantastic,

+1

or as friends and I have discussed,

we may like love or hate a genre, but you can almost always find a good artist that does that well,

Rap, as an exai mple, not a big fan, but some Beastie Boys, that I like,

This. Prince was a phenomenal guitarist, admittedly, but his tone and voice remind me of the sounds feral cats make when they’re in heat.

Some of the death metal guitarists & drummers.

I like some melodic metal or other types. Don't know all the names. But some of the real screamy metal guys. Have some guitarists & drummers that can absolutely kill it.

I just can't deal with them screaming for the whole song. Don't mind a little of it as long as there are some slightly softer pieces thrown in. Just not the whole thing.

I just opened this thread to see what i might be missing. Used to be quite open about new sounds and even stopped to listen those that originally rubbed me the wrong way.

First time i heard Zappa i wanted to punch the neighbor, who gifte me Joe’s Garage for my birthday, in the face. Ended up becoming a fan.
Always wanted to see Santana play but i agree his music is quite special and not for everyday listening. Love Jeff Beck and learned to respect Prince’s talent and genius but by no means i can stand his music. Hard pass. Whole catalog.

So called guitar virtuosos, younger ones, don’t do it for me. Boring.

No names to offer this thread.

I feel this one. Don't like Pearl Jam, not a huge fan of Nirvana so much but I love AIC and Soundgarden and STP and Smashing Pumpkins.

But I also really like Prince.

My brother is an incredible blues guitar player. It is his life. He has played professionally for many years and has written and released a number of blues albums under different band names. He has played with some awesome musicians over 50+ years.

The problem is I don’t like blues. He lives a mile from us and I feel obligated to hear his band about once a year. That’s enough.
