...and I felt obliged to include it in this post. No, not THIS SONG I was thinking about this song down below. How things that should be obvious to you and are right in front of your face get over looked. I was familiar with the David Allan Coe song for about 25+ years. And familiar with the song below for 30+ years. But it wasn't until a few years ago that I realized Coe was talking about the same guy. Don't know how I missed it. And don't know why I felt the need to share, just thought about it today when the song popped into my head. I get sentimental about things, baseball is one of them. "On September 20, 1984, Goodman died of leukemia at the University of Washington Medical Center in Seattle, Washington... He was 36 years old. Four days after Goodman's death, the Chicago Cubs clinched the National League East division title for the first time ever, earning them their first post-season appearance since 1945... In April 1988, some of Goodman's ashes were scattered at Wrigley Field, the home of the Chicago Cubs." .This message has been edited. Last edited by: cas,

Yet he lived on in a way, making his mark as a Cub fan. Set the controls for the heart of the Sun.

Staring back from the abyss |
He and Prine were best friends. Prine would often tell stories about he and Goodman at his concerts. The last time I saw him live was at the Chicago Theater a few days after the Cubs won. He told the story of how much Goodman loved the Cubs and how he wrote the song. Then they blasted Go Cubs Go and the whole place went wild. That was a good night. After having been a fan for many years, I finally got to meet him. One of my favorites of his: Another one of my favorite songs. Him and Prine. He was a heck of a guitar player. ________________________________________________________ "Great danger lies in the notion that we can reason with evil." Doug Patton.

Re: You Never Even Called Me By My Name I prefer David Allen Coe's cover: It's always the first track on my ever-evolving "The (Nearly) Perfect Country and Western Album" "America is at that awkward stage.
