Just got finished watching it. I liked it but I am notoriously easy to please when it comes to Doctor Who. There were some questionable "resolutions" to open plot points that didn't really resolve anything. However since it was both Capaldi's and Moffatt's last turn on the show it's doubtful that they would ever be touched on again going forward. Especially with the choice of the new doctor.

I'm still going to watch the new shows when they come out but if they get too SJWy it may finally spoil the series for me.

I DVR'd it today, but since I'm the only real Whovian in the household, I will have to wait until tomorrow to watch it.

I really like Capaldi's Doctor, but I think Moffat ran the show into the ground (of the past 2 seasons, only maybe 4-5 shows (not counting Christmas specials) are worth watching). I sincerely hope the new writer(s) take the show back to more positive story lines.

IMO, of course.

I did get the wife to watch the episode "Christmas Carol" today. This represents the very best of Doctor Who to me - the wonder and beauty of the infinite possibilities of the universe. Matt Smith's 3 seasons started the decline in story lines, IMO. Too many episodes of Season 5-6-7 are too much like horror movies, just plain depressing, or just too 'deathy.' I hope they take the new Doctor back into the lighter and un-depressing story territory which makes Doctor Who such a great francise (IMO, of course).

I haven’t watched the Christmas special yet and I liked Capaldi. I liked Bill and honestly have no issue with gay characters when they feel real or particularly pertinent to the story......I felt Bill was gay to check a SJW box however and that annoyed me a bit.

I can’t wait for a female Doctor and think they should have done it years ago, but again, I fear that instead of taking the character to a new level/stories it will just be a weak “check the box we need to have a woman.....cuz well....we need a woman to check that box.

I hope I am wrong and I am really looking forward to a female Doctor I just don’t want it to be forced PC crap. I want a cool ass female Doctor who with the same dark undertones but with a little “missy” mixed with the different views an optimistic female Doctor will bring.

Ok, I finally watched it. Overall, I liked it, though it wasn't the best Doctor Who Christmas special. I liked the reveal of the WWI officer's identity, and his ultimate fate at the end of the episode. THAT was a very good plot twist (don't want to spoil it, as this part had the biggest emotional impact for me).

Overall, the episode was kind of depressing, as it reminded me (once again) that Bill died (they killed off the LAST TWO companions and marooned Amy and Rory in the inaccessible past - same thing as death, as their loved ones and family would never see or hear from them again). This just recalled to me the downward trend (dark and depressing, not light and uplifting) that the show had taken in the last years under Moffat. Hopefully, they bring in a new guy that actually enjoys making the fans happy.

I mean, I have only watched the 'new' series (starting back in 2004/5), but killing off EVERY companion for the past 6 seasons was a bit much. I just watched the David Tennant two-parter Stolen Earth/Journey's End, where they brought back all the former companions (Rose Tyler, Captain Jack, Martha Jones, Micky Smith, and Sarah Jane) from the previous seasons. It was a nice tribute to the show's continuity and a reminder that most companions' experiences are good, and lived good long lives after traveling with the Doctor.

Not so for the last 4 companions (5, counting Nardole). They. All. Die. And Bill just didn't have a 'normal' death - she was turned into a Cyberman first. That's WORSE than death. Given this track record, it will be downright cruel for the Doctor to take on any more companions. Capaldi even told Bill in their first episode together how 'she would ALWAYS be safe inside the TARDIS' - makes him look like an self-serving cruel bastard now, since OUTSIDE the TARDIS is where most of the danger is (he conveniently left that part out).

Back on topic, I guess. . .

I thought they did a great job 'bringing back' the First Doctor. I've never watched any of his episodes, but they had a real flesh and blood actor, not some stupid CGI stand-in (are you listening, Star Wars?). His out-dated comments on a woman's place in society were a running joke, and had me laughing every time. I also liked his jabs about Capaldi's age and the Sonic Screwdriver. I also loved seeing "Rusty" again (from the episode "Into the Dalek").

I'm sad to see Capaldi go, mostly because of the missed opportunities. He was a great actor wasted with lousy and depressing plots. Hopefully, the new writers can get the show back on track. I don't care who the cast is - without good writing, the show will be crap.

As for the new Doctor; they are ALL different and take getting used to. If it were up to me, Tennant never would have left. Each Doctor (since I've been watching, at least) has made the part his own, and brought his own unique personality into the part. I liked all 4 of them (5, counting John Hurt), and all 4 have great episodes (along with some bad ones, too, of course (this will be true with most any show that has a long run - there are many Star Trek episodes I refuse to re-watch) ). I hope they don't go all PC/SJW on the role. Bill's 'identity' didn't bother me much, as the show never really tried to rub my face in it. I liked Bill's character; she was a good companion regardless of her 'identity.'

As with any show, the ultimate success will mainly depend on the writers/director(s). I will definitely give them a chance.

Watched it the other day, sad to see Capaldi go but glad to see Moffatt's turn at the helm is over. Yes he's responsible for a few really good episodes but he's also responsible for how utter crap it's gotten over the last few years. I think he's a better writer than showrunner and am looking forward to the new helmsman.

Side note, and I know this is horrible of me, but I couldn't help but laugh at how once the Female Doctor tried to fly the TARDIS she promptly caused it to crash. Darn woman drivers. Wink

I noticed that. The TARDIS didn't crash - it physically ejected her into space. Eek

The TARDIS is a woman, after all. Maybe she's healous?

Hadn't thought of that. Perhaps she really disliked the possibility of a woman calling her sexy. Wink

I watched it just the other day and honestly ehh. In the past there was some emotions when the doctor regenerates especially Tennant's departure but I had nothing this time around. I will give the new doctor a chance but I'm hoping that it doesn't get stupid with pc crap.
