Not a good week for guitar players, apparently. Was last surviving founding member.

RIP Gary. You were a huge part of my youth and I think of it fondly whenever I listen to your music. I think I’ll listen to Freebird and Simple Man before I go to bed tonight.

Dang, sad to hear. The guys and gals in the band over the years didn't have a very long life span including the ones that survived the plane crash. Their hard living lifestyles must have had a lot to do with that. Alan Collins was an amazing guitarist but what a tragic life he had with the car accident that left him in a wheel chair and eventually caused him to pass at an early age.

There is an outstanding documentary about Lynyrd Skynyrd named "If I leave here tomorrow" that is well worth a watch for fans.

Sad. I guess one good thing about advanced age is that I saw Skynyrd—before the plane crash. That original band may well have been the best I ever saw.

July 4, 1976 seems like yesterday. My cousin and I were the first ones onto the Liberty bowl field when they opened the gates for the Lynyrd Skynyrd, ZZ Top, Blue Öyster Cult, Outlaws concert in Memphis, TN.. What an incredible concert.
