Definitely not for the easily offended. Could have been more aptly titled Porn Things or Frankenstein's Daughter meets '70s Porn.

We had seen some innocuous trailers, so my wife wanted to stream Poor Things. I don't profess to be a cinematic critic, but the appeal of this film was beyond me. Tons of gratuitous sex, mostly grotesque, under the guise of "experiencing life". The reviews, unfortunately not read till after the fact, were wildly polarized, ranging from "tasteless garbage" to "feminist masterpiece".

Not that the Academy has any credibility left, but it has given this film 11 nominations.

I've got to go with "tasteless garbage". Some type of futuristic fantasy world meets Victorian style garbage. Unless you have some need to see Emma Stone nekkid, don't waste your time or money on this one.

Dang it. Just started watching it last night and was creeped out enough to turn it off. Now not sure if I’ll turn it back on.

If you got already creeped out by the first few minutes, you haven’t even touched a lot of the messed up stuff. The sex scenes when she’s working at a brothel in France about 2/3 of the way through are pretty rough.

Yeah, I glossed a lot of that and came back in towards the end. Had to, because she got an academy award for this, and I had to see what it was all about. Maybe the overall message, but I just didn’t enjoy this film the way I usually have enjoyed her work.
Yikes.

After reading your review, I watched this out of morbid curiosity. It was quite possibly the worst movie i have even seen, and I watched all the way to the end. The costumes were ridiculous, the camera work was like WTF, the accents were horrible and the music had me shaking my head the entire time. Emma stone went full retard on this one and it did not work.
For this movie to even be nominated for anything but a Razzie is a complete joke. And for Emma to win best actress, I can't even begin to wonder what they were thinking. Zero out of Ten stars, would not recommend. Just avoid at all costs, there was nothing artistic or redeeming about this movie, just garbage.

The way I heard it explained was like this: A young woman with the mind of a child explores sexuality. Basically what some in Hollywood promote, which is pedophilia. They just made the body of the minor an adult so as not to make it too obvious. There's some sick people out there.

That's a simplistic review of it. The woman(9 months pregnant) commited suicide to escape an unfullfilled marriage. The "doctor"/dad rescued the corpse, extracted the infant, removed its brain, reinserted the babies brain into the dead mom and reanimated her. She was now a mature woman with the brain of a child, the brain then aged and experienced a sexual revolution using the moms body as a vessel as the brain matured. And the only reason the doctor hasn't slept with her is that his frankenstein dad mutilated his genitals in the name of science as a child. And he is grossly disfigured from some unknown reason with stitch marks all over his face. It's all really quite depraved and ridiculous. For it to be considered for any award really shows how disgusting Hollywood has become.

So, there IS a movie worse than Birdman or Melancholia.

I guess they had to bury the bar BELOW the Marianas trench for this one.

There are times when Marzy's signature is really appropriate!
