Hot Ones: Jeff Goldblum

I've really enjoyed Jeff Goldblum over the years (yes even Transylvania 6500), but after watching this I feel like the man is a caricature of some kind of aggregate of the parts that he's played. He uses tons of words to say nothing and always seems over the top happy, to the point of complementing people precisely because he really doesn't have an opinion or anything to say.

I like Hot Ones and I always enjoy the episodes, including this one; however, I think I like Jeff Goldblum less than I did.

He seems verbose, and not in a terribly good way. I don't know, maybe his music is great.

Same odd dude as always from the 2 minutes I made it through. I just think that's who he is, and when he "plays a character" it's just him being him in whatever circumstances his character is in. He is the ultimate type cast of an odd professorial windbag.

I think his eccentricities have only gotten more exaggerated with age, but it also fits his character. He is definitely what he wants people to see, whether he has taken on his character or lives his public life as performative as his job dictates.

Aside from the occasional comment following suit of the typical Hollywood political idiocy, he mostly appears to wants to be little more than the eccentric old man he's made himself out to be - Like his character in Ragnarok is just... him.

Goldblum has always been odd, but he crossed over into uncomfortably creepy on this one. I still enjoy his movie roles, though.

He was a mumbling, manic, nearly incoherent expert speaking much and saying little in the most recent Jurassic movie....wait....or was that the one before that and the one before that?

I used to like him back in the days of THE FLY.

Now, he’s pretty annoying to me.

As I age, I can't handle the heat like I used to. But I must say, if you like Indian spice, this has some heat and is tasty.
"Clark & Hopkins Artisan Pepper Sauces - Assam Hot Sauce 5oz"

I notice several of the guests take a liking to it.

And more on topic, I always thought Jeff an odd character but enjoyable. Not so much though while on Hot ONes.

When he took that teeny tiny nibble out of the second vegan wing, I was done. If you’re going on a show revolving around the eating of hot wings, you’d better fucking eat the damned things.

Weird Al nibbled too. Whatever. While I'd like the guest to actually eat, if they're entertaining, I give it a pass.

I've never watched any episodes of this series but I did just watch the Alton Brown episode. You can believe it or not, but when Alton was asked his favorite food movie, I knew he was going to say Babette's Feast. If you've ever seen this film, you know it's an obvious choice.

Along those lines, I'd also recommend Ang Lee's Eat Drink Man Woman, which opens with the most fantastic Asian meal you'll ever see. IIRC, Lee said the sequence took weeks to film.

I'm gratified to hear Alton talk about his disappointment in the food channels moving to reality TV shows. I think that shit is so stupid. He also mentions the cult of kids who decided- or rather, their parents decided for them- to try to become Food Network "stars". Roll Eyes I see these little bastards on these food competition shows and it's disgusting, for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that they don't look like kids. They're made up like miniature adults. Really freaking creepy. To do that to your child- man, oh, man.

PS- Alton's a shooter and owns a SCAR 17 and a T-Series High Power.

Goldblum reminds me a bit of Vince Vaughn,

maybe talented, has some good roles, and some stinkers (and everyone will have a different opinion on which is which)

both have a bad case of verbal diarrhea, and in they speak 30 words when maybe 5 will do,,

re Alton Brown,

if he ever brings his live show near you, go,

one of the best shows I have seen, wife and I have been fans of him for years, and his live show is just fantastic

Yes. It's like he either gets paid by the syllable, or he thinks everyone is astounded by his musings, which he himself views as prophetic.

Para, I met Alton in a Marietta gun shop. I didn’t want to bug him but when he went into a back corner of the shop, I told him I really loved Good Eats and he lit up and said thank you. I don’t think he expected to be recognized in a gun shop but he was super cool.
