Went to see this movie on a whim this weekend without knowing much about it. A bit of an Alien knockoff - but the martian-thing was a pretty disturbing creation !

This comment is a spoiler. I went to see it because it is lingering in Reno. The pest control problem is disturbing. People mean well, but they manage to make a mess of things. Making a determined killer bug from a soil sample on Mars is exactly why we should not be going "out there." We don't know what is out there, and we do not need to know. Letting the kids name it "Calvin" does not alter the course of events. It makes it rather more sick. And what is the deal with Ryan Reynolds getting top billing and buying the farm not much after the second act has started? The film belongs to Jake Gyllenhaal and Rebecca Ferguson. They have to deliver the final emotional impact once the game of escape pods goes awry. Back on earth again, the helpfulness continues to our final destination: Extinction.

I enjoyed the movie, it was pretty good, if a bit derivative. It was pretty stupid that they had no good protocols for testing something like that Don't weep for the stupid, or you will be crying all day
