Today i made this exercise: name the first music act that comes to mind, starting with A, B, C, etc.

Took me a few seconds for some letters and for others the instant answer wasn’t what I was expecting.

For example, i thought of Jimi Hendrix instead of a lot more familiar Jethro Tull.
Had trouble with the W and found Wishbone Ash, being a lifetime follower of The Who.
Shame on me, I picked America over the outstanding Allman Brothers.

Want to play?

Was just thinking EXACTLY that. ABBA.

Nothing to be ashamed of in my list. Fortunately.
I would cut my wrists with a limp noodle if Abba came to mind.

I WAS a big fan of the Bee Gees BEFORE 1976. Liked them better than the early Beatles. But that was long ago. Water under the bridge.

In penance, go listen to Emerson, Lake and Palmer for a couple of hours and you’ll be ok.

Our age shows, gentlemen Wink

There are a few names i’ve never seen or heard before. Will look them up.

bald1, I considered expanding the range of the genres but settled on Pop/Rock.
Would never, IMO, put Pat Metheny and Oregon (if we are talking of the same band) in the list. Huge fan of PM (miss Lyle Mays, he was outstanding), have most of his albums and some collaborations but with Joni Mitchel.

Thanks for playing

I explored the ECM catalogue thoroughly during the late 80s and discovered Ralph Towner. Have 20 Oregon recordings.

lyman’s list is very interesting as in a very defined period. Don’t think Klaus Nomi was that popular, so to me is like a landmark.

Here’s mine:

America
Beatles
Cure
Deep Purple
ELP
Foreigner
Genesis
Harrison George
Inxs
Jimi Hendrix
Kansas
Led Zep
Marillion
New Order
OMD
Pink Floyd
Queen
Rolling Stones
Santana
Toto
U2
Vangelis
Wishbone Ash
X ….. empty

Ah yes Charo, forgot she was married to Cugot. Used to watch her on Ed Sullivan and when she did Carson when I was a kid. Used to imagine going motorboating with her back in the day. Wink

Despite my previous mention of ABBA, I thought I'd give this a shot without looking at others' replies.

Allmän Bros
Bachman Turner Overdrive
Credence
Deep Purple
ELP
Foghat
Genesis
(Jeff) Healy
INXS
Jethro Tull
Kinks
Little Feat
Mountain
Nazareth

Pantera
(Suzie) Quatro
REO Speedwagon
Santana
Traveling Willburys
Ultravox
Vangelis

Many of these are bands I don't really know or care for, but that's what popped into my mind first.

ETA, how could I not think of Oasis or Offspring? Or Ozzy...?
