I would said some of the best (can't isolate just one) was about ten years ago with Return to Forever.
Some of the best sounding were the Police from the eighties as well as Cheap Trick from the late seventies - LOUD.
I think a lot of a great concert has to do with sound and your location to listen.
Al Di Meola, John Mclaughlin and Paco De Lucia was also an exceptional experience (eighty something).

Best show: Motley Crue and Ozzy, 1983, at the Salt Palace in SLC.

Best memories: Tesla and Def Leppard, 1987, at the Salt Palace in SLC. Went with the hottest cheerleader I ever laid my eyes on.

Man, I wish I had a time machine!

That's interesting. For me, The Replacements were probably the *worst* show I've ever seen. And I'd have loved to see Nick Lowe back then (although I did see Dave Edmunds during that period).

And I believe you. Because if one knows the Replacements, they could be drunk, out of control, not finishing songs in one gig, and the next one they would be the second coming of The Stones circa 1972. I have seen some terrible shows by them, and some brilliant ones. The one I mentioned was better than even The Clash, Elvis Costello, The Ramones, etc.

And oddly enough, the Nick Lowe gig that I mentioned was better than a Rockpile show I had attended a few years earlier Wink

The last Texas Jam at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. It had to have been like 1988’ish.

I’ve only been to a dozen or so concerts, but I think the best for me was a music festival in St Augustine FL in 2014 or so. Mumford and Sons was who I was there to see. Another band cancelled, so the promoters flew out John Fogerty. He played CCR songs with Mumford. It was freaking awesome.

Behind that would be Zac Brown Band.

It's a toss-up. During my college years in Munich, a lot of concerts were held "in the round" at Circus Krone. Given the atmosphere (and the times), I felt that a lot of the acts felt free to ramp it up. Santana was a mind-blower, as were the several Zappa (and the Mothers) shows. I saw Ten Years After about five times, and a lot of my guitar playing was influenced by Alvin Lee.

You can't truly call yourself "peaceful" unless you are capable of great violence. If you're not capable of great violence, you're not peaceful, you're harmless.

Metallica, with no other acts on the bill. Was in Pullman Washington and the 100th show on the black album tour. A few tour dates later James went up in flames on stage and that was it for a long time. Glad I got to see them before that.

Another good time was had when Prong opened for White Zombie at the civic center in Spokane. No seating - just a concrete floor and your own determination.

Cars opening for Styx, circa 1979.

Next best was Metallica (no opening act) then Kiss (with makeup).

Most disappointing was Pretenders with the lead singer pointing out people in the crowd who were subsequently busted for something.

Weirdest show was DEVO followed by Frank Zappa and his quilt/ blanket made from women's underwear (as in, women in the crowd who removed them during the concert and throwing them up on stage)

I've seen Jethro Tull many times from 1975 up until just a few years ago, but an acoustic Tull set at The Vic Theater in Chicago about 2010 was one of the best shows I ever saw. Fourth row seats made much of the appeal.

Honorable mention to seeing The Who at the Boston Garden in 1976.

Oh, Phil Collins at The Orpheum Theater in Boston around 1982 was pretty great too.

The Who, during their first farewell tour, at Pontiac Stadium.

Eddie Money was the first opening act and very unfortunately the crowd was having nothing of it. His performance sadly came off like a lounge act.

Then, the Clash came out and the girls all went crazy. They were very good.

Finally, it was time for the greatest rock band ever! Two and a half hours, nonstop!!!

John Entwistle's bass guitar shook the entire stadium. It was glorious!

I think I was deaf for three days, following that fantastic concert.

It was wonderful Smile
