Not one bit of woke to be found.

He chose silly over politics.

He could never be good enough for his father and that criticism drove him to ignore his critics and just keep going and perfecting his art. Believe it or not, he took a scientific/philosophical/psychological approach to the act with his college training.

No more spoilers, for me it's a good watch into GenX comedy.

Good to hear! The Kevin James stand-up on Amazon was also refreshingly funny and non-political. Also focused on Gen-X.

It's a documentary about him, completely controlled by him.

I saw it over the weekend. It's an interesting tale of someone that decided on a career course, based in large part on the unhappiness he found at home. It's good to see he did find success and to a degree (though quite late in his life) came to find the love he'd lacked for so many years. As you said, he's not PC and intentionally decided to look for humor that was universal in substance. Historically, he arrived at his success at the right time and place, and we are all the better for it.

It's a wonderful story and I'm glad he decided to follow that unique path and share it with us. I won't provide any spoilers either, but seeing him evolve as a person is very different from most examinations of public figures.

I'm a long time fan and I'm really looking forward to watching this with a glass of nice Bourbon.
