I wanted to start a spoilers thread since I know theres alot of stuff swirling around the release of the game. I'll reiterate my desire for them to have left Ellie and Joel alone and shown me different characters as I think they ended the first game perfectly. I really was concerned that they were going to go back and screw that up and while they told a story, I'm not a terribly big fan of it. I think they had a meeting and decided to "talk about revenge" and went down a really dark rabbit hole where their characters made some decisions I'm not sure they'd have made. I feel like theres some revisionism in the retelling of the tale of the first game though its been a minute since my first playing it. (I go back atleast once a year or so) My recollection was that Ellie is more told hey were going to check you out and get the cure but not that shes knows she'll definitely die in the process. I never had issue with Joels actions and was shocked to find a game that so lined up with what I thought I'd do in his shoes. It seems like they want to go back and rewrite history and make it "a terrible thing he did". I'd argue not one of the fireflies was innocent and you didnt get the option to do anything but shoot your way out. Including shooting the surgeon who comes at you with a knife if you dont shoot him. I was fine with the Abby story line if she hadnt killed Joel. She does though, ugly, after he just saved her life. I think if this was just the way they HAD to do it they should have reversed the story lines time wise and I should have started with Abby and her crew and maybe I'd have been more on board with them as characters. As presented I was in more of a screw you all approach and had no issues marching them to their deaths. If it had just been the Abby story for the entire game and they'd have left Joel and Ellie out of it I'd have liked it just fine. A large deal has been made about the trans character, I dont see how it factored into the story in any real way. Yara and Lev could have just been two kids trying to get away from the Seraphites and I think it would have played the same. It felt like something they just really wanted to do but couldnt organically insert. At the end I dont care one way or the other but I feel it was unnecessary and shoehorned. In the end I felt like they went out of their way to be shitty and make a hard nasty ending for everyone. It reminds me of the walking dead where it just has to be bad for the sake of being bad. If it had ended on the farm the first time I believe I'd have been better with it or even if Tommy had come and Dina pleaded with Ellie to stay and she just looked out the window and cut to credits leaving it to us that would have been better. Alternatively I'd have liked the Rattler encounter to have started as Ellie being there to kill Abby but then either leaving her or cutting her down and them going their separate ways. The choice to bash your head into the wall so to speak with the end fight just felt over the top to me. I liked Joel sticking to his guns on his decisions at the hospital quite a bit. I think I will revisit the game from time to time but I wont be nearly as invested and it will be just for the game play and mostly breeze the story. I do wish they'd have given us a different story and this is the first of their games I feel like they took a giant misstep on. Again I dont hate it, but its fine instead of their usual great. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Anubismp,

I had the same thought on a separate spoilers thread...ya beat me to it lol I have been through the game twice so far, and I actually enjoyed the story and how they laid everything out. Abby killing Joel was straight revenge for him killing her dad the surgeon. Ellie then went after Abby for revenge for Joel. The way they ran it, there was so much tossed at you that you actually needed to stop and think a bit on occasions. It took me a few to sort through everything at the end, and to me anyway, it is what made it a good story. It actually makes you think about things. As far as Lev goes, I do agree that it was not anywhere near the "big issue" that people are making it out to be. It is such a small part of the overall story, the only way I could see anyone actually having a issue with it is because they want to have a issue with it. I didn't really "catch on" until the cut scene in the aquarium. And even then it was still fairly subtle for the most part. The only thing I am a bit bummed about tho, no plans for a DLC. I can understand that there really isn't anything that could be done to add more to it like Left Behind did, at least nothing I can think of, BUT.....I was really hoping I might get to see a little something with Eugene Along that line, did anyone else find Eugenes porn stash?

I've read that people got more out of it on replay. I could see that as you are just enjoying the game and not on edge to see where it takes you. I need to go back and replay it for sure and just enjoy it. I need to go back and play Uncharted 4 as well since I think I was terrified that they were going to do something similar in that story as well.

I do recommend a second play through. Even tho I thought I paid attention to things, I did notice a few more things the second time. Like Eugenes porn collection for example lol completely missed it the first run You are definitely able to pay more attention to the the full story and all the little interactions and what not when you don't need to worry weather you will be getting attacked in a few seconds. I will say tho, that damn boss in the hospital didn't get any easier
