https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dungeon_Crawler_Carl https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08B...ef_=saga_sdp_cft_dsk Is anyone else familiar with this? My wife has been binging the audiobooks lately and wouldn't leave me alone until I checked it out. I'm into real books, even Kindle versions, more than audio, but I finished the first couple of chapters on the way to work today. I have to admit I'm curious now. Summation: A worldwide alien apocalypse kills >99% of most humans and turns the world into an 18 level RPG-type dungeon for the survivors to play through while it is broadcast to the rest of the galaxy (universe? Haven't gotten that far yet) for entertainment purposes. The main character (Carl, duh) is a Coast Guard veteran that was caught up in this wearing nothing but boxers, crocks, and a leather jacket. He's accompanied by his ex-girlfriends Persian cat (Princess Donut), who can apparently talk at some point (also haven't gotten there yet). This is humor filled sci-fi fantasy that you probably won't dig if you aren't/weren't a gamer. I'll be continuing to listen, but may also go back and read the actual books anyway. There's also apparently a Paramount+ series that has the green light for production, too. ________________________________________ -- Fear is the mind-killer. Fighting the good fight![]() |
I read the first couple books after a few friends bugged me incessantly about it (like your wife did). They were okay, but the schtick wore thin after a while. I don't plan to continue the series. And yes, if you're not a heavy video/TTRPG/etc. gamer, it may not appeal to you and you may not get a lot of the references. (Kinda like Ready Player One in that regard.) I'm decently well versed in that world, and even then it got old.

I've been pulled into the first book as of recently, I intend to finish it today. _____________________________________________ Proverbs 3:31 "Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways."

I also read the first couple and agree w/ Rogue about losing interest. They can be fun for a bit. Others like it will be found under LitRPG.

It was ok..there are actually alot of Lit RPG authors out there. And I have enjoyed quite a few of them better than dungeon crawler Carl

I liked the series. Discount Dans Backroom Bargains is a knockoff but also pretty good.

I downloaded the first book in the series to my Kindle. I found the "adventures" to be repetitious, the book quickly became predictable and boring. I won't bother with any more of the books. הרחפת שלי מלאה בצלופחים

My wife is hooked on this which is odd because this isn’t her normal genre or sense of humor.
