There used to be several versions of this, no-doubt based on translation, interpretation or commentaries. At the moment, Amazon only lists a couple.

Any opinions on which edition I should get, even if it's from a source other than Amazon?

I can't answer your question directly as you asked.

I have a couple of hardbacks of what I would describe, in my opinion, as the "drier" type of writing. Just harder, for me at least, to comprehend and learn the lessons. Traditional so to speak.

I found a hardback version a few years ago, it reads in our modern language vernacular, thus making it so much easier to understand.

I don't have access to it right now where I am, but if you can find such a version, I'd advise getting it and as well a "more of the traditional writing" translations.

It made a lot more sense to read the more current language version and thus understand it better.

Sun Tzu was brilliant and I see what he's talking about today in our society and world relations.

Don't really know which is the "best". The Cleary version is generally considered the gold standard. The most accurate and complete translation, however, is the Gagliardi version, and also the only one to have won an award. (I read the Cleary version many years ago.)
