Just watched on HDNET movies, and Jose Ferrer's performance is outstanding. Been a long time since I have watched it, and really enjoyed his role. NRA Life Member "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." Teddy Roosevelt

"From the beginning you hated the Navy. And then you thought up this whole idea. And you managed to keep your skirts nice, and starched, and clean, even in the court martial. Steve Maryk will always be remembered as a mutineer. But you, you'll publish your novel, you'll make a million bucks, you'll marry a big movie star, and for the rest of your life you'll live with your conscience, if you have any. Now here's to the *real* author of "The Caine Mutiny." Here's to you, Mr. Keefer." I agree - excellent role and for me he really made the trial and the movie. Great voice and solid actor. Hollywood today doesn't have many distinct voices, usually it's a default to: Peter Coyote, Donald Sutherland or Morgan Freeman.

That last twist of the movie was unexpected, and Ferrer did it just perfectly. _________________________ “Remember, remember the fifth of November!"

I knew the typhoon was real, and the damage and loss of ships & men was real, but I didn't know how accurate the movie was as regards a certain ship and it's captain. "Down to the Sea" is a well-researched book that goes into detail about the three ships that were lost; their crews; and their captains. It's a thick book, but an easy read because it is so well-written. An interesting factoid - the captain of the ship that the Caine Mutiny is based on eventually went on to command another destroyer, the USS C.K. Bronson. A few years later my Dad was part of the Bronson's crew during the Korean War doing plane guard, escort, and bombardment missions. One of their actions that didn't make it into the log book was when they detected a submarine in an area where none of our subs was supposed to be. After hedgehog and depth charge attacks a bunch of oil and debris came to the surface. The captain got on the PA and told the crew that they had sunk a whale - then re-emphasized it. Dad and others were on deck and saw the stuff in the water - fuel oil, planking, bits of clothing, etc.

When you can throw a drink in a mans face then tell him you'll be outside and are drunker than he, with a broken (?) hand, you know you are dealing with someone with not so much intestinal fortitude. NRA Life Member "Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." Teddy Roosevelt

Agreed. I think his role was excellent; I never expected that scene and he nailed it. _____________________________________________________________________ “One of the common failings among honorable people is a failure to appreciate how thoroughly dishonorable some other people can be, and how dangerous it is to trust them.” – Thomas Sowell
