The Blue Bloods replacement is so many levels of woke. My wife and I caught it over the weekend and she was the first to say "I hope it gets better".

I had posted a new thread (now deleted) about this and didn't feel it was really "woke", just a little..different.

Here was my post:

I will preface this by saying that I am VERY leery of spinoffs because the track record of them is so bad historically. Look at the NCIS spinoff "Tony and Ziva" for a recent one. It's a stinking pile of crap.

We watched the new Blue Bloods spinoff "Boston Blue" last night and were pleasantly surprised that it actually was pretty decent and may actually make it. Besides a little bit of what felt like forced diversity with some of the characters it was well done and we will give it a chance.

The premise:

quote:

The premise of Boston Blue is that former NYPD detective Danny Reagan moves to Boston to work for the Boston Police Department, where he is partnered with Detective Lena Silver, a member of a prominent law enforcement family. The show explores Danny's adjustment to a new city and police department while also connecting him with his son Sean, who is also a cop in Boston.

New Beginnings: Danny Reagan leaves the NYPD for the Boston Police Department (BPD) to be closer to his son, Sean, who is also a patrol officer there.

A New Partnership: In Boston, Danny is paired with Detective Lena Silver, a rising star and the daughter of another notable law enforcement family in the city.

A Universe of Law Enforcement: The series expands the Blue Bloods universe by exploring the different dynamics of law enforcement in a new city, but it maintains the original's essence and family-focused approach, including family dinner scenes.

The Case of the Day: The show features a new case in each episode, but the overarching story is about Danny's transition and his relationship with his new partner, Lena, and his son, Sean.

So, "Blue Bloods - The Next Generation"? ST-TNG was kinda awful the first year. Maybe this will get better too.

It wasn't all that bad. Nothing new but similar to Blue Bloods with different characters.

I think they did the Blue Bloods tie-in pretty good. Glad to see Danny finally got shacked up with his partner Maria Baez Smile

My wife just kept saying 'this is so bad'.

I don't know if anyone else caught it but Dannys' sons friend (the one in the super family) is the same kid that played the big brother on the show 'Blackish'. That's another show that went utterly and completely bad from one season to the next.

It’s my understand that Danny’s son was recast because the actor who played him in Blue Bloods was not available. Apparently focusing on his education now.

Watched the second episode and so far it seems like it's going to be fine and would not be surprised if it goes a few years.

The only thing I'm having a bit of a hard time with is the recasting of Danny's son Sean. I understand that the original actor chose not to return for the spinoff but the actor they picked for the recast Sean is much taller and significantly thinner and he's just not Sean for me yet. Maybe it will take time.

Through Episode 2, have not deemed it unwatchable. I will continue to watch it hoping for the best.

My wife and I are trying but are wavering now, never a good sign for a brand new show and 4-5 episodes in.

They are just trying WAY too hard with this diversity crap with the family and it's just feeling forced now. Ernie Hudson is a big name actor and he's barely window dressing with a few lines here and there.

The actress that plays Superintendent of Detectives was great in the TV series Psych but she just doesn't have the bearing or gravitas for this role and the forced "girl-boss" act is quickly getting old too.

It's a shame but the track record for spinoffs is abysmal.

I too am now on the fence about this series, and here are my reasons.

1. Danny Reagan goes to Boston (on leave ?) to watch over his son’s recovery after nearly being killed in an arson event. OK, I’ll buy that for a bit, but now son is back on the job, so Danny wants to be around more for his son. I get that too, BUT he’s becoming a helicopter parent.

2. Who is paying Danny Reagan’s salary? Is it NYPD, or Boston PD? Has Danny R been “seconded”(assigned) on a “task force” to work in Boston? I’d think that the Comptrollers of NYPD & BPD might have some heartburn over this, as why hasn’t he transferred/joined BPD officially. He’s still carrying his NYPD “shield” instead of a BPD “badge”.

3. Sean Reagan (son) and his partner (son of DA, brother of Danny’s partner, step-brother of Superintendent) are first-year Rookies and are assigned to the same shift and patrol car. What police department would ever assign two Rookies to work together. Is BPD that short of experienced personnel? And all he and his partner do is talk; hardly any police actions.

4. The uniformed Superintendent (Patrol, Detectives, Whatever) is the step-daughter of the DA, and step-sister of Danny’s partner and half-sister of Sean’s partner) more like “Barbie with a Badge” and no where near a Frank Reagan-style commissioner in toughness nor experience. Was she a DEI-selectee?

5. Danny’s partner, step-sister of the Superintendent and daughter of the District Attorney, was raised in a Baptist household. Her DA mother converted to Judaism upon her marriage to deceased (murdered) judge husband, and now the daughter is converting too. I just don’t see this as a reality, as Baptists are rather strong in their religious beliefs, which means denying Jesus as Savior, unless it is a Messianic Judaism branch, which has not been mentioned.

I’m not the only one who’s got heartburn with this TV series, based upon what I’ve read in comments on social media sites. What’s even more telling is that there’s been a significant falloff in viewership based upon TV ratings from the first episode to now.

Boston Blue is not Blue Bloods, even though it could be considered a spin-off. The producers and writers of Blue Bloods are not involved in Boston Blue, and it shows. I give Boston Blue a 2-year TV run at most, as Donnie Wahlberg just doesn’t have the chops to carry the show.

I watched Blue Bloods for it's whole run. Sometimes it came across as kind of corny but Selleck and some of the other cast members carried it pretty well.

Boston Blue isn't as good for sure but I'm still watching for now.

Not looking too good for “Boston Blue” in the TV ratings game. Yes, it’s already been renewed for Season 2, but it’s been double-whammied with a long breaks in early Winter, Olympics, and now “March Madness” preemption.

At the rate of loss in viewership, it’ll be a short-lived show. Just doesn’t have the same vibe with the ensemble cast that “Blue Bloods” did.

It tries way too hard with the blended race Jewish family thing to the point where it's getting cringy and annoying and the "girl boss" stuff is too much as well.

I still can't buy the new Sean character, I regard him as a new character and not the Sean Reagan of Blue Bloods.

My wife still likes it but I won't miss it when it finally does get canned.

My wife likes watching it. I think the acting pretty much sucks across the board and there's no chemistry among the cast.
