Give me your opinion.
Just noticed an Imperial release of this formerly controversial movie. So, they keep coming back with it like it is some essential piece of cinema history and personally, besides the obvious spectacular chicks and the career failed Malcom Mc Dowell as the villain what else is there?

When I catch the obvious second rate Malcolm on the tube I wonder what did he do to miss the great opportunities he mist have had after Clockwork orange...

I've never seen it but I've always imagined it to be garbage, based upon comments people made about the film when it came out.

If you want opinions, though, here are about 300 of them:

I watched it many years ago. Teresa Ann Savoy as Drusilla, was fantastic looking. I don't remember much else. (I had to look up actress's name.)

Best description I've heard is porn masquerading as history.

It made much the same impression on me. I remember McDowell is in it, past that, not so much. Like most people, I think I remember the "fuss" made over it more than what the fuss was about.

I watched about half of it once. (It is very long as I remember.) It wasn't any good. It is a mediocre to bad movie with porn scenes scattered throughout.

Vidal wrote the original script, but it was then so revised that Vidal disclaimed it. The director wouldn't film the porn, so they were filmed separately and added. He also disclaimed the movie. You can imagine what all that did to the quality of the film.

Maybe that was Malcom Mc Dowell's mistake: Never go full porno.

Too plotty for porn too porny for film. Stumbling upon it as a 12 year old was eye opening.

It was so bad not even the nudity could save it. Kinda like showgirls in that regard. Smile

The version I stumbled across didn't have much in the way of porn. I do remember Helen Mirren's boobs. That and it being a hard to watch, bad, movie.

What I've "stumbled" across of Caligula so far has been nothing but porn, and relatively hard core at that. I guess I'm just lucky that way Wink

Brass' cut had a lot of nudity, but no sex. Guiccione apparently hijacked the set at night and shot hardcore scenes that were edited in.

I don't think Helen Mirren, Malcolm McDowell or Peter O'Toole would have signed on knowing that beforehand.
