Saw it in the theater upon release in 79. A classic of the Parodic Art. The outcry against it was a prime example of The Streisand Effect

Sigh…

Today my 23 year old gay nephew sent me this. So fucking entitled and woke.

Hey there. I was debating whether or not to text you about this. I don’t comment on your posts anymore because I try not to let it influence our relationship, but this is insensitive. Treating LGBTQ people as a joke is not funny and continues narratives that hurts people I’m  friends with, and indirectly me. Trans people existed in ‘77 and will continue to exist. In the US, they are the group that is statistically murdered most per year just for trying to be who they are. That post and your attempt at a joke show your bias against people who aren’t like you. It makes me feel like you do not support me in my own life as a gay person. Im not looking for an argument, just want you to be aware that it hurts people. If you have questions about what I said, feel free to ask. I hope you have a good day, uncle.

Need some more info on who is committing those murders to draw any larger societal "conclusions". Could be a big surprise.

“It makes me feel like you do not support me in my own life as a gay person”.

My reply to this mentality would be the same every time the subject comes up around me. I don’t care if you are gay. You are not special for being gay. Period. If you feel like you need “support” for your lifestyle choice, you are the one with the problem, not me.

This was on Twitter (I know, right?), some chick came out to her father as being 'gender fluid', his response was not what she hoped for:
