I first heard Jackson Emmer on the radio here. The University of New Mexico has some pretty good radio shows.
I heard Jackson on a show called "Art of the Song" its on wed. nights 10-11 mnt time after the "Blues Show".
Sunday night has Jazz show. Tuesday night has "Ear to the ground" Saturday night has "Rt 66" show and the "Psychedelic head show" (60s-70s) Some of their Free Form shows are pretty good too.

Not sure he's very obscure but Curtis Salgado is mostly a blues musician with a little funky cajun mixed in at times. Kind of has the Dr. John or a little Leon Russell vibe.

I saw this group as the opening act for the Brian Setzer Orchestra. Thought they were fantastic.

Another I failed to mention is a vocalist by the name of Cecile McLorin Salvant. She is kinda young still at age 34 maybe. Superior range, style and vocal control. And, her accompanist should be a star in his own right. Aaron Deal. No head banging or scorching riffs, just good old fashion stuff. Two of the best musicians going IMO.

I found Julian Lage recently, in my research on guitars. I originally thought this was a Gretsch. But it turns out it is a custom Collings 470 JL. I could buy that very guitar, and spend the rest of my life in pursuit of perfection, and I wouldn't have a fifth the talent of this master.
If you love guitar, you'll find this worth a run.

I was in a brewpub in a tiny town called Kilmarnock (my brother runs a gunshop there I have 1\2 interest in) and was talking to the owner,, she knew Danny Gatton
Fantastic thread - don’t know how I missed it the first go round.
There are a couple of bands I like a lot that may not be well known.
The first is Hayde Bluegrass Orchestra. I was delighted when Para posted their version of Wayfaring Stranger recently. I don’t know much about them, except that they are from Norway. They recently released a live album and I have been enjoying it immensely.
But, my favorite band right now, and one which I don't believe is very well known, is Sons of the East. They are from Australia. I've been listening to them for a couple of years now and can't get enough of them. They were in Chicago last Fall at a small club. I put off getting tickets and they sold out. I've been keeping tabs on their website (https://www.sonsoftheeast.com/) and saw that they'll be in Chicago again this September at a slightly larger venue. This time I didn't wait and got tickets right away. I'm really looking forward to seeing them. (It will be awesome if they bring that didgeridoo with them!)

I doubt many members have heard of Abigail Washburn, who plays clawhammer style banjo. Having a clawhammer player in a group is common, but to mix clawhammer with three finger picking banjo, with only two performers, is not so common. It takes two talents like this husband and wife to pull it off.

I have no idea if other parts of the country have come to know the music of Colter Wall. He’s a native of Saskatchewan and is a working cowboy. I understand that Joe Rogan is a big fan and wanted to have him on his podcast. When Rogan’s people tried to line him up for a show, they were told he was busy with ranch work.
This is a cover of the Hoyt Axton song, “Evangelina” from the soon to be released album Little Songs. This version is with a full band and I really like it.
Just for fun though, here’s a solo, acoustic perf of the same song.
I might add, he’s also a great songwriter himself.

Rachel Flowers. I'm sure I've posted about her before. If ever the term musical savant applies to anyone it applies to her.
She lost her eye site when she was an infant.
