saw this topic while watching the Netflix series on tanks...

don't know much about that conflict - but it looks like a pretty good subject to read about.

can anyone recommend any books in particular ?

Very few Americans have seen images/video or, can grasp what happened in Chechnya through the mid-90s. It was a very sobering wake-up to modern armies as to what happens in built-up areas and a resilient opposition.

I lived in Russia during the first Chechen war which was 1994-96.

What was done to Grozny, the capital of Chechnya, would be the equivalent of the US Army leveling a city like Cleveland to rubble.
