Semper Fi - 1775 |
I know I'm not the only one to listen to his music when I am working out or need something with a beat. His last album was one of my favorites. His recently released, "Revival" is getting mixed (love it or hate it) reviews. Any thoughts? ___________________________ All it takes...is all you got. ____________________________ For those who have fought for it, Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

As I have said about eleventy-billion times, if I made my media choices based on the 'talent's' politics, I'd be left watching re-runs of Magnum PI and Clint Eastwood movies. Which maybe is not a bad things....LOL ___________________________ All it takes...is all you got. ____________________________ For those who have fought for it, Freedom has a flavor the protected will never know ΜΟΛΩΝ ΛΑΒΕ

Yeah...wasn't helpful and had pretty much zero relevance to the OP...
That's always been my stance. I've made a couple exceptions for certain comments or actions...but overall, everyone is entitled to their beliefs. I like the album a lot. I'm not sure I'm in the "love it" category, but definitely not in the "hate it" group. ---------- The first 100 people to make it out alive...get to live.

To each their own, but I absolutely cannot stand Eminem. It isn't his politics (with which I imagine I'm probably in disagreement), it's that thing he does that's jokingly referred-to as "music." There are a lot of artists in that genre whose music I do like. (In fact I recently made for my ride a compilation album.) Just not his. One of his non-tunes comes up on a station to which I'm listening and I change stations. "America is at that awkward stage. I’ll have to check it out. I really enjoy the Recovery album. ———————————————— The world's not perfect, but it's not that bad. If we got each other, and that's all we have. I will be your brother, and I'll hold your hand. You should know I'll be there for you!

Run DMC or Slick Rick, and such, are more accurately that, and they predate Em by 10+yrs, but the gist is true. Hip-hop as we know it is more than 30yrs old now, creeping toward 40. Kids these days, unless serious fans of the genre (beyond currently popular artists), probably have no idea. It's Tricky, Paid in Full, and Paul Revere are basically 30yrs old as of today. The Slim Shady EP didn't come for another 10yrs (still 20yrs ago...).

paradox in a box |
I am not generally a rap fan. In the past I have actually liked Eminem and owned a few songs of his. I also try not to let politics get in the way of my enjoyment of artists. But Eminem didn't just express an opinion different than mine. He offered an ultimatum. He said if you like Trump then don't be his fan. I took him up on it and deleted his stuff. These go to eleven.

Never really followed him. Didn’t mind his earlier stuff, I’d listen to it. Saw him on SNL a few weeks ago, and was wondering why the female he was performing with was not center stage. She was amazing. I thought he ruined her performance. ----------------- I apologize now...

As posted above I was a fan of Run DMC, Slick Rick, LL Cool J, Eric B & Rakim, Kool Moe Dee, and others of that Genre from years ago. I enjoyed Eminem's early stuff. Especially in the gym. Haven't listened to him in years. This stuff these little bastards are putting out nowadays? Just screeching noise AFAIC. I listened to it. Terrible. Castle is the only song I would listen to again. In your head isn't terrible, same with arose and framed. Notice with those four songs he goes back to his roots and his original flow, somewhat. He ran out of material and the beats on this album are terrible (how can you not have one banger on this whole album?!) Back in the day it was fun to hear him rap about being a white rapper compared to Vanilla Ice, having a fucked up childhood, a fucked up ex, etc. All that's been done. His new stuff is mediocre at best and combined with poor production it's just a disaster. I heard RR and Dre had some input on this album, maybe it's their time too. I think Rap God was his last *good* song (not great). The Bad Meets Evil album was OK as well. Other than that it's been a lot of trash for the last decade from Em. I think the nature of hip hop is like who is hot and who is the "now," not the yesterday. Em is the yesterday. Remember he once rapped "when your run is over just admit when it's at its end." It's time.
