My draem job when I was a kid was to be a truck driver. Growing up in the 70's with movies and TV shows like Convoy, movin' On, BJ & The Bear, Smokey & the Bandit fed this desire.

In 1976, Radio Shack under the Realistic label released 'Put the Hammer Down; Songs about the open road, the big rigs and the men that drive em'. I wore that record out. Anyhoo, this was one of my favorites from that album.

When I was 18, I finally got to drive a truck. My dad arranged a trip for me to go from Chicago to the Canadian border towards Calgary hauling scaffolding and shoring materials. While I had a pretty good time, I quickly learned that driving a truck was not the career I was looking for.

Another favorite is "18 Wheels" by John Stewart, mostly for this lyric, " Chevrolet burning in the left hand lane, me I'm looking down through the window pane. Beehive layin with her head in his lap, don't believe she was taking a nap.."

I got to drive OTR with my dad in an ‘83 Superliner Mack back in the 90s. Best father/son time I can remember.
Late at night, on a flat stretch of Interstate, nearly anything with a banjo could have you up against the governor and driving by the pyrometer in short order.....
Dad passed in January of ‘06. Bladder cancer & heart failure. He really went downhill after he had to sell his last big truck, a late model KW T600
I miss that man.

Ya know, alot of folks stop at truck stops, they just naturally think they should, 'cause they figure anywhere a truck driver eats the food's just got to be good.

Grew up around and spent quite a few years working on trucks.
My dad and uncles used to drive when I was younger and I would get to go on the occasional out of state runs with with my dad.
