Opening scene “The End,” The Doors. Melding of the wop-wop of rotors of the Hueys and the ceiling fan in Captain Willard’s hotel room. Foreshadowing of the insanity to come.
My opinion of this movie changes a bit every time I watch it. Ļast time I watched Redux I thought it was great.

Just watched Redux on Paramount. Lt Colonel Kilgore is not only my favorite in the movie it’s one of my favorite characters of all time. The captain of the boat starts talking about how it’s too shallow to put his boat into this part of the river and Kilgore is all fuck that, this is air cav. We’ll pick that fucking boat up out of the river and helicopter wherever you want. Those scenes with Duvall are legendary for me.
What am I doing? I'm talking to an empty telephone

Yeah, Duvall’s character is bigger than life. This time, closer attention to Martin Sheen’s, Captain Benjamin Willard, an alcoholic Green Beret headed up river to take out Brando’s Col. Kurtz, also SF.

I have watched Apocalypse Now a couple of dozen times in all of its configurations, and it is one of my Top 10 films of all time, the 2nd Coppola movie on that list.
In that hotel room scene, Martin Sheen had a real emotional breakdown while filming; it was his birthday and he got shit faced drunk, ab-libbing much of it.
Another anecdote from the film; when Coppola asked Dennis Hopper what he needed for his role as the photo journalist, he replied "and ounce of cocaine" which he received from the production dept.
