Hopefully better than the last couple of movies... As I recall, SE wears a mask due to his face being disfigured in a military mishap... OK... 12 year old me just had a nerdgasm... Yes he was in a helicopter crash / explosion in 'Nam and his face was burned and he couldnt talk. The track record of GI Joe movies isn't great though Don't weep for the stupid, or you will be crying all day

You mean the Globally Integrated J.O.E.. It is nice to see new movies but rehashing things just to do it, is tiresome.

One of the reasons for Snake-Eye's & Storm Shadow's rivalry was that Storm Shadow resented having a Caucasian Westerner ascend the ranks and surpass him in the Arashikage ninja clan to which they both belonged. I don't know if the rivalry plays out as well when both Snake-Eyes & Storm Shadow are played by Asian actors.

Laugh or Die |
He was a blonde white kid in the last movie, and a blond white dude in the comic... and like chef said above, that was a big part of the story behind why he and stormshadow were rivals. I guess we can just Tom Clancy that story down the drain and change everything though. ________________________________________________

It also doesn't help that Storm Shadow thought for years that Snake Eyes killed their master. Snake Eyes wasn't injured in NAM it was on a hostage rescue mission in the middle east where Scarlett was trapped in a Helicopter crash and he went back to save her and took the brunt of the explosion where his face was on fire. Instead of canceling the mission to receive medical treatment he continued the mission where for many years he was disfigured. Many years later he had plastic surgery to fix his face but still couldn't talk. I have the very comics. Still don't want to see this bull shit woke/pc hollywood crap.

dfens Actually according to GI Joe comic artist/writer Larry Hama it was a helicopter crash in NAM that caused the injuries. https://www.syfy.com/syfywire/...american-hero-origin James We the unappreciated must do the unimaginable and see the unthinkable to protect the ungrateful

I was digging around in the garage and couldn't find it...used to have the comic...probably stuffed in a box somewhere... But I seem to recall SN and Scarlett in a helo and some sort of fire/vapor/bad juju coming through the window and hitting him in the face. I also recall something about Scarlett and SN training together and despite her throwing him, etc. she could tell he was actually the one in control...or something to that effect. As to the timeline...can't recall...this was back in the 80's when every kid on the block had Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Transformers, Thundercats, and Atari...so 'Nam wouldn't have been a completely unreasonable timeframe. Bottom line, lets hope the movie isn't a suckfest... Link to original: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wt6BJWB3tjo Boss A real life Sisyphus... "It's not the critic who counts..." Eeeeeh. I’ll pass. If you want a halfway decent GI Joe video to watch, check out the GIJoe: Resolute series. The Snake Eyes stuff in there is pretty cool. EDIT - This series https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/G.I._Joe:_Resolute “The urge to save humanity is almost always only a false-face for the urge to rule it.”—H.L. Mencken

This is the book in question I have it buried in the closet with all my other comics I used to collect as a kid. https://www.yojoe.com/comics/joe/joe144.shtml Boss1 you were right about the training between Scarlett and Snake Eyes. Scarlett comes from a family of Black Belts in Karate and she was teaching the joes hand to hand combat and when it was Snake Eyes turn he let her throw him even though if he wanted to could have easily defeated her with his ninja training. But he didn't want to show off like all the other grunts who thought a woman would be a push over and didn't want her to lose face so he held back and she realized it and asked him where he trained. Of course at first he kept it a secret.

^^ I can remember this kinda of useless minutia, but half the time I'm looking for where I left my cell phone...at least I'm not talking to someone on it asking if they've seen it Go figure... While it's true that Snake Eyes was injured in a helicopter crash during Vietnam, the helicopter crash that muted him was actually in the Middle East.
Regarding the first three panels on that site, I remember this issue. It was the only one where there was no dialog in the entire comic. Really? funny if you looked at the link I posted it came from the Artist/writer Larry Hama Snake Eyes was hurt in NAM, maybe he didn't lose his power of speech but his face was injured in NAM. If you look at the comics in the link you provided there are bandages on Snake Eyes when he gets to the airport waiting for his family . To be more specific Snake Eyes was disfigured in the hostage rescue incident in the middle east and as a result that is why he started wearing the full face mask to hide the scars. But years later when they rebooted the comics he had plastic surgery and had his face fixed but his vocal cords are still damaged forever so he will never talk again.
