We just started watching Blue Bloods on Netflix and like it so far. Yes, we know it's been on for like 9 seasons now and have a lot of catching up to do!
I still can't help but see Thomas Magnum from time to time as I was a kid when that show was big and remember Tom Selleck in it.
The NYPD Police Commissioner he plays in Blue Bloods appears to carry a revolver with half of the trigger guard removed, has anyone seen this? They showed it in a closeup on his nightstand in one scene, I've never seen this before? Does they come that way or is that a user modification?

We've watched the show from the beginning. About 3-4 years ago the network talked about shutting the show down, but it didn't happen. If you watch it for awhile you'll forget Selleck as Magnum.
He is an actual firearms enthusiast vs the politically correct typical Hollywood 'actor' who makes his living with guns then whines about them.
The gun was called a "Fitz Special". Here's one article about it. There's lots of others on the internet.
My wife and I enjoy the show. Over the seasons, I had realized that Selleck does most of his acting in this show with a sigh and his mustache & eyebrows.

Yes, I first started watching it about 8 months ago. I watched the first 4 seasons on Netflix. The problem is the episodes start to get very similar and start blending together.....each episode is the exact same MO for the most part. Not sure why they put so much emphasis on alcohol in that show either.

^^^This. And Donnie Wahlberg as the bad-ass cop gets pretty old after while. I burned out on it around 3 or 4 seasons in. And I LOVE Tom Selleck as an actor.
Be careful when following the masses. Sometimes the M is silent.

My wife watches Blue Bloods regularly. I will on occasion watch an episode with her. In general I think that it's good TV. But even as infrequently as I've watched sporadic episodes of the series over the years, I too have picked up on the sameness and repetitiveness. It's all too apparent that even good TV isn't immune to that trap.

Robert B. Parker wrote the Jesse Stone books and movies with Selleck in mind. When he died, Selleck co-wrote a couple more movies so you are probablt correct on the available time issue.
One of the better offerings on TV but Wahlberg gets real old. He must have a hearing loss because he’s always yelling.

I find this surprising. Wahlberg (Danny) is my favorite character. I think he does a fantastic job of playing the overworked, surly detective. I find it humorous when he says things like "Yea, if you even dreamed that you should wake up and apologize." Now his sanctimonious sister Erin drives me nuts. I can't stand her.
I think the show gets better after about season four. The first seasons were good, but the show really comes into its own around season four about the time that Maria (Marisa Ramirez) becomes his partner.
