Recently watched "The Intervention" in its French Language title, "15 Minutes of War" in English - Amazon Prime. https://www.amazon.com/15-Minu...Lenoir/dp/B07VVMV72T I thought it was pretty good, even if it strayed far from the facts of the actual assault. Oh yeah, one more thing. Olga Kurylenko!!! 1976 - Djibouti (between Eritrea, Ethiopia and Somalia) is the last French Colony in Africa. State-sponsored Somali terrorists hijacked a schoolbus carrying 30 children of French and American families with members serving at the French Airbase. They forced the driver to drive to the Somali border but were stopped short, near the village of Loyada. Five gendarmes from the recently formed (in response to 1973 Munich Olympics massacre) special ops national police force - the GIGN - the ones that carry the iconic and somewhat anachronistic Manurhin 357 magnums we deployed (according to the movie the unit had not yet even been named..) including their leader, Lt. Christian Proteau (changed to Capt. Gerval in the movie). They were not well received by the French Foreign Legion: they were dressed in civvies with long hair, beards, and Proteau/Gerval with his glasses looked more like a professor than an anti-terror operator. Long story short, the GIGN operators set up camp about 90 yds from the bus with F1 sniper rifles and using a method that has been widely adopted (think Maersk Alabama / Richard Phillips / Navy SEALs) the synchronized and simultaneous elimination of four terrorists. I enjoyed reading about the founding of the GIGN (supposedly they also invented fast-roping deployment from choppers) and the intervention and only heard about it from a video of a couple guys shooting several old sniper rifles, and the F1 performed the best in their hands on this particular day, which led me to watch the movie, which I enjoyed. I think the end scene where the GIGN take out a shit ton of the soldiers and terrorists forces lined up on the Somali side of the border is fairly embellished. YMMV http://foreignlegion.info/1976...tage-rescue-mission/This message has been edited.
