Ok, This comes from the Fleetwood Mac thread but this is not the purpose of that thread so I started a new one.

I was watching AC/DC which is an important part of my youth, but dang they really really need to just stop. so I give you my boy Angus. I could not watch the whole concert and had to stop it was too painful.



Now, Iron Maiden on the other hand, I love them now as much as I ever did. It is just fun.

One part of the interview, he talks about why they like other countries more than touring in America. "The Americans are just wanting to re live the old days, but the world audiences are young and it is new to them" (I am paraphrasing) Kinda interesting to think about these guys being an important part of a new generations youth.



The new metallica album, I havent even listened to it. sorry.

Metallica and Megadeth both died off in the mid-late 90s for me.

I've been to seven 311 shows since the late 90s, and every show is a blast. Heck one of their latest music videos is fans and their kids singing and dancing to the recent release.

Great fun, imo.

Try watching Cheap Trick, it is VERY painful.

i love me some rock n' roll but sadly - ALL of them ...

I agree on AC/DC. Love the boys but they need to retire. They have more money than God so why do they continue? I know Angus loves to perform but gees, that's embarrassing.

Back in Black was the soundtrack of my teenage years.

I have thought about this since the other thread about Fleetwood Mac got started.

I agree with the age thing, and not only in rock and roll, Kenny Rodgers just canceled a tour due to health issues.

I seriously think its just so ingrained in all these 70+ years musicians to play music.

Is all they have ever done, and is one habit they can't shake. I don't think they are doing it out of enjoyment, rather doing it out of years of repetition.

Sadly, I believe some still need the money. I have seen my share of these entertainers since many of them play the casino circuit. I saw BB King about five years before he died as well as Bo Diddly. Both were horrible, but the backup bands were good. You cannot complain about free concerts. On the other hand, Bobby Rush is not much different than he was in his prime. Smokey Robinson still has the touch. Irma Thomas sounds great as do the Neville Brothers. I saw the Stones twice in their prime, but would pass on one of their concerts today.

I go to enjoy the music not to relive my youth.

Journey is still really sharp. I was never a big fan but my wife got me to go last summer. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The singer is every bit as good as Steve Perry, maybe better. They could have recorderd it. They were tight, Vocals were almost perfect.

AC/DC with Axl at the helm just isn't the same. Same goes for Journey with the Philippino guy singing lead.

Why on earth would Angus hire that pathetic, washed up wierdo, Axl Rose? There must be dozens of cover band singers out there that can actually sing. It's all so sad and embarrassing. Just let it go Angus. Turn off the lights, the parties over.

In my mind there are very few older bands that can pull off live shows anywhere close to their performances in their prime.

I have always been a stickler for the vocal parts and it seems that age always kills the vocal capacity before the manual dexterity of the players declines.

Rush and Led Zepplin are two of my favorite bands but neither singer is close to what they could do in their youth and it is distracting to me.

Suprisingly Paul McCartney puts on a good live performance. I would put his voice at about 75% of what it used to be and that is enough. McCartney is in his 70s but still brings it pretty well.

Iron Maiden also seems to still put on a good live show. They are in their 50s I believe but Dickinson still has the pipes.

The wife and I saw Hall & Oates and Tear For Fears last summer, and I was surprised at how good they were live. Daryl Hall is 70 and, though he doesn't hit the highest notes as well as he used to, his performance was rock solid (pardon the pun). I saw Hall & Oates in the late 70's and again in the mid 80's, and the show I saw last summer was every bit as good as their earlier shows. Tears For Fears was always on my bucket list, and I was in no way disappointed in their live performance.

We also say Depeche Mode again a couple of years ago and their live show is still as good as ever.

Yeah, it's pretty bad when Angus really needs a walker to do his duck walk.

I watched a Peter Frampton concert on TV, and he did a good job. He didn't try to recreate the youthful sound - He sat in a chair through most of it and played new music with just a little old stuff. Plenty of acoustic, and he is a really good guitarist.

My opinion as well. Rock N roll is a young man's game. For a genre that emphasized "hope I die before I get old", many of these rockers still think they can turn back time. IMO, the primary motivator is money, and very few can resist. Of those who did, Robert Plant is perhaps the standout; the guy has turned down perhaps the first billion dollar tour to drag out Led Zeppelin on the road. We'll see if Elton John keeps his word on retiring next year.

I picked on Angus, because that chewing motion he makes is disturbing so it stuck in my head. But as I was thinking about it, I realized there was a recent concert I was excited about and then had to shut it down. I have decided they will live in my memory and not in this modern performance.

Probably the single greatest band, I illogically locked onto their story in the seam between Pyromania and Hysteria. But now . . . man I had to stop watching, Joe Elliot will be remembered as I knew him in 1988 not in Las Vegas:
