Turner Classic Movies, Thursday, Sep 18, 8PM Central Time.

Some of the younger members may not have heard of this great movie.

The Best Years of Our Lives (also known as Glory for Me and Home Again) is a 1946 American drama film directed by William Wyler and starring Myrna Loy, Fredric March, Dana Andrews, Teresa Wright, Virginia Mayo and Harold Russell.

The film is about three United States servicemen re-adjusting to societal changes and civilian life after coming home from World War II. The three men come from different services with different ranks that do not correspond with their civilian social class backgrounds. It is one of the earliest films to address issues encountered by returning veterans in the post-World War II era...

William Wyler didn't know how to make a bad film. If he directed it, it's worth watching.

The Best Years of Our Lives is one of those films I watch every time I come across it.

All the scenes with the sailor who lost both his hands are so powerful and poignant. I think I read that this was his first movie. He did one hell of a job. The pain of being crippled due to war comes across like no other movie I have seen about veterans.

Wylers WWII documentaries are excellent, too. And one of his movies, Mrs Miniver, was cited by Winston Churchill as a morale builder for the Brits during WWII.

doesn't mean you should

Looks like it's available on YouTube, if you miss it tonight.

Growing up, most of the fathers of my friends, and mine too, were WW2 or Korea veterans.
They had to learn how to get on with their lives way before the term PTSD was used. Extreme cases were termed "shell shock".
