That's enough for me to stay FAR away from this new movie.

Steven Spielberg Developing Original Frank Bullitt Movie

By Adam B. Vary

Steven Spielberg is developing an original feature film based on the character of Frank Bullitt, the San Francisco cop first played by Steve McQueen in the 1968 thriller “Bullitt.”

Josh Singer (“The Post,” “Spotlight”) is set to write the screenplay, with regular Spielberg collaborator Kristie Macosko Krieger on board to produce with the director. McQueen’s son Chad McQueen and granddaughter Molly McQueen are executive producing after a lengthy negotiation process with the McQueen estate to secure the rights to the character.

Warner Bros., which released the 1968 “Bullitt,” will be the studio for Spielberg’s new film, which is not a remake, but an original story about the character, arguably McQueen’s most iconic role. The 1968 “Bullitt,” based on the 1963 novel “Mute Witness,” follows Bullitt’s investigation into the death of a mob informant that he was tasked with protecting. Directed by Peter Yates (“Breaking Away”), “Bullitt” features one of the most memorable car chases in movie history with McQueen famously doing all of his own driving in a modified Ford Mustang. The film won the Oscar for editing and was also nominated for sound.

No script is in place for Spielberg’s take on the character, and no deals have been set, so this will not be the filmmaker’s next movie after “The Fabelmans” debuts in November.

Spielberg is on something of a cinema history kick, having just earned two Academy Award nominations for directing and producing his reimagining of the classic musical “West Side Story,” which is also nominated for picture, supporting actress, production design, costume design, sound and cinematography.

This story was first reported by Deadline.

Lets see who is picked to play Bullit. Someone tough, or some poser?

Didnt know this until I looked it up but Chad McQueen played "Dutch" the Cobra Kai with the bleached blonde hair in the original "Karate Kid" movie.

Which stunk the theaters out so bad, virtually no one went to see it.

No reason to believe this 'original story' will be any better.

Damn near 55 years later, and they can't come up with something original?

I'm going to bet good old Stevie fucks this one up.

I'll also state right now, that one of the most famous and iconic car chase scenes will be bastardized with some CGI crap.

Like painting a Mona Lisa with a mustache... Just leave it alone!

Scorcese's criticism of Hollywood for making only remakes and rehashes is 100% correct.

A movie absolutely no one asked for. To be honest, outside of the car chase, it’s not really a good movie. But, at least the car chase was “real”. I’m sure this one will have some over the top, CGI enhanced, Fast & Furious style action.

Hard pass.

Will the woke crowd make Frank change his last name to "Wizard"? Or Wizird?

The beginning of the movie is interesting to me because it's so casually slow up until the car chase. It would be a different movie without the car chase, but it has substance.

There will be more James Bond movies. Don't fret.

Something else for him to ruin and attempt to 'reset the historical record'

Let's just hope this stays as an 'idea' and never gets to the point of casting and filming.

In the original, the Mustang was really the co-star of the movie.

What are they gonna use now, that's just as cool? About the only thing that comes close is a Charger. Maybe.

As long as it's not an Explorer..... or something electric.
