Don't know why you came up with this conclusion.
I, for one, consider it a great album in the class of Rumours, Back in Black, in the sense each are packed with killer songs. Also had no idea this was an Excitable Boy thread...

Fair enough. Yeah, I am focusing on Excitable Boy. He created so much memorable music, and all of his albums have songs that will stand the test of time, but I think this album is special.

Since we’re conversing, “Poor, Poor, Pitiful Me” is not on Excitable Boy, it’s found on his self-titled second album, a great album in its own right. In addition to that song it also has “Carmelita,” Hasten Down the Wind,” “Desperados Under the Eaves,” and “Mohammad’s Radio.” Pretty impressive list of musicians and guest artists on this album too.

Sorry, total brain fart on my end; years ago, I had Pitiful added as an extra track to the 2007 expanded version of Excitable Boy on my iTunes desktop computer, since I do not have his 2nd album. The song is still one of my favorites though.

My sort-of Zevon story- my wife and I were at a bar in a club called Wolfgangs to see David Lindley & ElRayo X and we saw Lindley walk by. We managed to talk to him a little bit and I asked if Zevon heard their version of Werewolves; Lindley exaggerated a "shhhh" and said "don't tell him" and he walked away. Jorge Calderon, who has appeared on a lot of Zevon albums played bass for El Rayo X at that time.

I'd consider this one for mine, and as much as I like Zevon's version of this, I like Springsteen's more. It was a great tribute by Springsteen.

There are at least two. Smile

I remember going to a concert of his in LA around 1983. He opened with the statement that he had finally added to his "Poor Poor Pitiful Me" lyrics. My college buddy and I were very excited to hear the possibility that the lyrics that ended with "I took her back to the Hyatt House....I don't want to talk about it!" might get extended.

Well....he did add to the lyric. The updated ending was "....I STILL don't want to talk about it!" Smile

Jungle Work. You couldn't make it today, but It's fun to listen to.
It's short, but it's fun:

First Verse:

Learjet S.W.A.T. team on a midnight run
With the M-16 and the Ingram gun
We parachute in, we parachute out
"Death from above," we're screaming now

Glad this thread still lives. I’ll return to the Excitable Boy album for, what I believe to be Zevon’s most beautiful song. Co-written by Jorge Calderón, it’s a story revolving around the 1914 siege of Veracruz.

Here’s the translation of the bridge, sung by Calderón:

“That day I swore
Towards the port, I will return
Although destiny changed my life
In Veracruz, I will die
That day I swore”

"I'll sleep when I'm dead" has always been a favorite. Love the banging on the piano.

When I was a kid one of my closest friends had two older brothers who had already left home, leaving behind a whole bunch of records. Their mother had been divorced, found a boyfriend and took off during most weekends, leaving us to our own devices. I remember playing WZ records all day, for hours on end. Good times.

I guess I hated to see this thread die. Blackmore brought up this song.

You got that right. They used this song as the backround music for one of the final scenes of House.

Found the scene.
