If you liked Patricia Arquette in "Escape at Dannemora", you'll love (to hate?) her in this "based on a true story" series. Great production, that unfortunately can't be binge-watched at this time. The first two episodes were released this week, but from now on its only going to be one episode per week for the rest of the season. Arquette plays a "somewhat disfunctional" mother who directs her teenage daughter to take unneeded medications, so that individuals and organizations will believe the child is suffering from a plethora of illnesses. The intended purpose is to get gifts (money and medication), Mom wants. The unintended consequence appears to be Mom's murder. Joey King plays Arquett's daughter and Chloe Sevigny (always great!) is a neighbor that quickly suspects all is not as it appears. Really great so far! I wish I could binge on it! Haven't you heard? Binge watching is the new smoking. Oh and by the way... Sitting is the new smoking. Lonelyness is the new smoking. Cell phones are the new smoking. Lack of sex is the new smoking. Diet soda is the new smoking. Living under socialism is the new smoking. (This one probably understates the risk.) If everything is the new smoking, maybe smoking wasn't that bed. The story is based on the life of Gypsy Rose Blanchard case who suffered from Munchausen’s by proxy syndrome at the hands of her mother. The HBO documentary Mommy Dead and Dearest details the whole story. _______________________________________________ Use thumb-size bullets to create fist-size holes. | |||
