Baroque Bloke |
I had season tickets to the Minnesota Fighting Saints WHA hockey team. At times, all three Carlson brothers were up with the team. Two of the Carlson brothers, Jeff and Steve played two of the “Hanson” brothers in the film. Jack Carlson was with the Saints when “Slapshot” was being filmed. Jack wasn’t a finely-skilled hockey player, but he was rugged. When lugging the puck up ice he didn’t try to deke out an opponent. Instead, he just crashed into him, then attempted to recover he puck before anyone else (friend or foe). As a result, opponents tended to stiffen up when they saw Jack coming. And one time, by God, he got the puck by a stiffened-up opponent and scored on an end-to-end rush. Serious about crackers

"They brought their fuckin toys with them! They're playing with their fucking toys!" "At least they're not playing with themselves" "They're too dumb to play with themselves!" I grew up playing Hockey, we'd watch this movie the night before our first game. ______________________________________________________________________ "When its time to shoot, shoot. I can't think of a sports movie I like more than "Slapshot". Set the controls for the heart of the Sun.

Did you come from behind that rock, or from under it? |
I saw Slap Shot in the theater in 1977 when I was a senior in high school. I'm not much on sports movies but in my opinion it still ranks as one of the funniest movies period, not just sports related ones. I watch it every couple of years and it's still as quotable as Monty Python, Animal House, etc. "I'm listening to the fucking song!" "Every time you think you weaken the nation" Moe Howard

I was an usher at a movie theater and I couldn't get enough of it. I would sneak in every chance I could get while I was working. To think I was actually getting paid to watch it. Funniest sports movie ever.
