I was bored and browsing through content on the y-tube. I came across a review by a vocal coach of Heart's rendition of Stairway to Heaven at the Kennedy Center. I liked that rendition so I was just curious what the vocal coach had to say - not that I know what a vocal coach is, what her qualifications are and didn't really care what her opinion was. I liked the rendition but I was just curious. That led me to another one of her reviews. There is a band named Disturbed; I had never heard of them until now. They did a cover of The Sound of Silence which I've never really liked for some reason. Something about the style and the singers - just kind of foo foo for me. And I didn't really know the lyrics but the title phrase just didn't make sense to me and I left it at that. Anyway, was curious now about a weirdly named band (Disturbed is kind of a weird name to me) covering a song I never really liked yet had the attention of this vocal coach (who I don't know and don't necessarily value her opinion). I watched the cover. All I can say is - WOW! Great voice, great music, great arrangement. Powerful voice and emotion stirring rendition. Poignant lyrics. I looked up the lyrics and I can identify with them. They make sense, especially these days. And I can certainly identify w/ them whenever I'm in Tokyo - a place I refer to as the loneliest place on earth. Despite all the people, who are also friendly and courteous on the face of things, I never feel as lonely anywhere as I do there. Even Seoul or Taipei, similarly populated, I don't feel the same (perhaps because they tend to be less polite, friendly and courteous so it's more like being at home). Anyway, I have a new found appreciation for the song, both original and especially the Disturbed cover version. Apparently it has been around for awhile and I've only heard of the band and the version today. What else have I been missing? "Wrong does not cease to be wrong because the majority share in it." L.Tolstoy "A government is just a body of people, usually, notably, ungoverned." Shepherd Book

Been some time, but has this version been mentioned before. Really different style. https://sigforum.com/eve/forum...750072554#4750072554 https://sigforum.com/eve/forum...840027954#1840027954

I've always liked this one. "I’m not going to read Time Magazine, I’m not going to read Newsweek, I’m not going to read any of these magazines; I mean, because they have too much to lose by printing the truth"- Bob Dylan, 1965

When the Disturbed version was released, it received such heavy rotation that I actually grew to hate it. I still very much prefer Phil Collins' version. I think he's talking about the Simon and Garfunkel cover, not Disturbed's cover of Land of Confusion. I like them both - but their version of Silence is indeed powerful. 'veritas non verba magistri'

While I understood he was talking about Sound(s) of Silence, for some reason, I thought it was covered by Phil Collins. No, I like the Simon & Garfunkel version of the song. Disturbed is one of the most underrated, yet fairly well known, heavy bands out there in my opinion.

Here's Disturbed's cover of Sting's If I Ever Lose My faith in You. Excellent Certifiable member of the gun toting, septuagenarian, bucket list workin', crazed retiree, bald is beautiful club! USN (RET), COTEP #192

I grew up listening to Disturbed and I think their music is good in its own rights, but they really do a cover song well making it slow heavy and deeper than the original.
Hadn’t seen this before, for some reason, thanks for posting! Also, had no idea Land of Confusion was a remake and holy shit the original is…strange. ...Then it comes to be that the soothing light at the end of your tunnel, was just a freight train coming your way...
