I'm a big Bond fan. There are a couple of Moore films I like but not many. I like The Spy who Loved Me and For Your Eyes Only in particular.

The most disappointing to me are the Brosnan movies after Goldeneye, though I do have a soft spot for Sophie Marceau and Teri Hatcher.

I'm actually watching Thunderball right now and would probably put it #2 on my Connery list behind From Russia with Love. I have always liked them better than Goldfinger or Dr. No.

I'm gonna vote for the funniest frog with the loudest croak on the highest log.

Moore was the worst Bond. But I liked For Your Eyes Only since I used to go to Cortina and Carole Bouquet. Who IMHO is the the most beautiful of the Bond Girls.
And Samantha Bond was the best Moneypenny.

I agree. It's like the campy stuff like Wayne Neton's televangelist was written in mind for a '70s Moore movie.

And on that note, I don't think any of them were particularly bad. They were products of their respective times and individually brought a component of the Bond persona to the role.

Roger Moore, though..he epitomized the bon vivant part of the Bond psyche, but well above his pay grade as a badass.

There was someone else besides Connery??

Actually the women in For Your Eyes Only was absolutely intoxicating so I guess I’ll give Moore a pass..

I actually thought Dalton did a good job. The 80s were filled with bad scripts, Bond not excepted. Carey Lowell and Miriam D'abo were fine Bond girls.

Miriam D'abo was no competition for her cousin Olivia D'abo...

I mostly just want to see cool spy stuff, like hidden bases and cool gadgets and such.

That, or Daniel Craig kicking the shit out of people in a thoroughly modern way.

But I'd prefer the former. British spy stories are often good. Fun fieldcraft to watch, etc. Cool sets.

The best Roger Moore, IMO, is Ffolkes with Anthony Perkins about a sea hijacking and rescue.

Moore.

I grew up with him as Bond so, I thought he was the best, then learned that the majority of the movies were more campy and gadget oriented, to make up for the poor quality. Learned to appreciate Connery and have developed a fondness for the first four. Brosnan I liked from Remington Steele and always thought he was a solid Bond despite the shitty scripts. Craig I didn't care for the selection but, have come to really appreciate his group of movies and arguably the best string of movie/storylines of the franchise.

Connery
Craig (near tie if you ignore Quantum of Solace)
Goldeneye Brosnan
Dalton (he’s far better than the movies themselves)
Moore (he’s Camp, but it can be enjoyable camp)
Post Goldeneye Bronson (the fall off is rapid after Goldeneye)
Lazenby (I’ve got nothing good to say here)

I grew up with Moore, so he gets a bit of a pass from me. I can still watch a couple of his films, but for the most part I’m embarrassed that I used to love them.

I guess I'm the opposite, I used to could not stand Roger Moore as Bond but now I can at least tolerate him for the chance to see the Bond Girls.

seems age will mellow you....

It would be Moore if I had to pick but I enjoy some of the movie concepts and set pieces from the films hes in. I liked the Dalton Bond quite a bit. I think I'd go

Connery/Craig
Brosnan (the cheese in the later ones arent his fault)
Dalton
Moore/Lazenby(Maybe I just need to revisit OHMSS but I never seem to get around to it)

As I consider what Bond films Ive liked the best, I was surprised how Daniel Craig has excelled in the role. I enjoyed the remake of Casino Royale. Skyfall Was quite good. Of Course the classics Connery classics such as GoldFinger & Thunderball are right up there Too. Her majesty’s secret service could use a reboot but I fear who portrays the next Bond. A politically correct Bond? Oh hell no..

I Despise Moore now, I didn’t have that level of discernment when was a kid. Now, Fuck his Bond movies except Moonraker, when I am craving outer space cheese.

I like Golden Eye with Brosnan but his others were hopelessly dull.

I like the Living Daylights with Dalton since it ushered in a post Moore era. The other is made for TV movie level lame.

The early Connerys are not something I would probably enjoy watching now but I respect them as the originator not the imitator. I still like Never Say Never Again.

I never saw the Lazenby Bond flick and gather I am not missing anything good.

All of the Craig Bonds are very good except Skyfall which is outstanding.

Respectfully, I disagree. It is my opinion that Dalton was the best Bond. I felt that his version was more true to Ian Flemming's book character.

I did enjoy, Connery, Moore, Lazenby, Craig, even David Niven! The Bond that I just could not tolerate was Pierce Brosnan. It wasn't his fault though. The story lines were shit.

I can take a wacky sarcastic quip every now and again but GMAFB. Bond is an assassin, its supposed to be dark. Kill the bad guy, bang the girl, save the day, next mission.

Fun topic!

Regards,

P.

Lazenby's film (OHMSS) is actually a very good movie, though Lazenby had basically no charisma.

But Diane Rigg!
