I saw it yesterday. As in Part 1, this second edition is void of "Weirding Module" technology. That seemed to be a BIG DEAL in the 1984 version of the movie...focused on it a lot. However, the Weirding Modules were NOT in the books, which I couldn't remember if they were or weren't, but read it on Dune Wiki - Fandom. So now knowing that, I'm pleased the new Parts 1 & 2 actually stuck to the book on this issue. Just under 3 hours from start to end of credits; it went by fast. Oh...and saw it in IMAX. It was damned good!!!! And yes...there is certainly an opening to launch into Dune Messiah and/or Children of Dune...have yet to read either and it's been YEARS since I read Dune. It'll be interesting where they take this franchise. 9+ parts like Star Wars?? Who knows... "If you’re a leader, you lead the way. Not just on the easy ones; you take the tough ones too…” – MAJ Richard D. Winters (1918-2011), E Company, 2nd Battalion, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil... Therefore, as tongues of fire lick up straw and as dry grass sinks down in the flames, so their roots will decay and their flowers blow away like dust; for they have rejected the law of the Lord Almighty and spurned the word of the Holy One of Israel." - Isaiah 5:20,24

While I liked the SciFi Dune miniseries, I think the Children of Dune series was even better. Dune Messiah can easily fit into 1 movie, but doing Children of Dune in one movie would be a hard stretch. Doing God Emperor of Dune would make for a painful and miserable 4+ hour experience in a theater, and while Heretics of Dune was OK, Chapterhouse: Dune and the Brian Herbert/Kevin J. Anderson books are pure pass. Just because they're better than Disney Star Wars doesn't mean it's worth watching.
