This style of comedy is an art that is in short supply these days...can't think of a single comic today that does this schtick.

I think Carson looked forward to Rodney being on the show as much as anyone. He loved playing straight man to him. Didn't watch all of that clip but I always remembered Rodney bragging about how good his lawyer was, so good that he once got a rape charge reduced to following too close.
