There is a whole Audio book relating to this. I listened to it while in Oregon. It is an interesting set of tales.

The context in which one became an executioner often destroyed families.

It is a fascinating listen.

I posted a while back about the book "The Faithful Executioner" that deals with Schmidt's life and career. Good read.

Well....I suppose in a way that might have cut down on repeat offenders though they did mention a few of those.

How did they know the bloke was loving those cows? Forensic science was not so great back then. Was most of this based on sworn testimony and eye witness accounts?

Back then I would like to have retired as a guillotine operator, but they didn't have a good severance package.

Around here, we recognize and reward wit. The acid test? When I wish I would have thought of the remark.

You know, I think we could use a little more of that good ol' fashioned tough on crime type punishment right about now, coupled with some 21st century high tech due process.

But I think a modern executioner might just make Boris rethink just how busy his schedule really was though. Wink
