Man, those columnists have been gone a while. But they were good ones.

I am that age, too.

These guys were local to my area, but did occasionally get state and national mentions / coverage:

Mark Montiel (former judge) - Radio host, but also occasional columnist. Keen insights on legal matters, and especially tough on crime and corruption, especially in politics.

Don Markwell - Radio host. He knew all the "dirty little secrets" of Alabama politicians and didn't hold back. Known in the local radio market as "The Don".

Art Parker - Newspaper editor / columnist in a independent local paper. He exposed a disturbing connection between high school sports and an athletic association, that for all purposes, had no legal right to impose fines and other punishments. A true investigative journalist.

Definitely Lewis Grizzard. I remember my mom would send me clippings of his articles and sent me a book of his when I was in the Marines. I still have the book she sent me 40 years ago.

OP didn't imply they had to be dead, just that you missed their columns. AFAIK he no longer has a column. Yep. Per Wikipedia.

Back in the days I took a paper newspaper, his column was a joy. I'm glad he's still around, hope he keeps going. Smile
