Loved the movie. Saw it opening night at the theater. One of my favorite Dafoe roles ever. Lt. Cmdr. Virgil Cole was fucking awesome. Watching him get all jacked up talking about taking on SAMS.

Do it Sandy, I’d do it for you. My favorite aviation film of all time.

Having owned and read the book, I had high expectations for the movie when I saw it in the theater...and was disappointed in the movie changes and some of the acting...but I will say that the flying scenes were really well done.

Having said that, I'm more impressed with it now, after watching these video reviews by 2 experienced military jet jocks. From a military aviation standpoint, they got a lot more right than I first thought.

I still think the movie doesn't measure up to the book, but it's been a couple decades since I either read the book or watched the movie and I'm going to try to do both again.

I will say that the second book in the series might be a pretty good vehicle for an updated movie sequel.

The movie was good. Amazing visual effects.

As for the books, Flight of the Intruder, Final Flight, and Red Horsemen were excellent techno-thrillers. The rest of the series were either dull or just to out there to be taken seriously.

I didn't read the novel until after seeing the movie. I was sorely disappointed in the movie after reading it, though.

Seeing this I began thinking about Mr Dafoe scenes of the character death. He has many.

Having spent a few years around the A6E, it’s pretty accurate.

Loved the movie and then read the book. I ended up reading the whole series. Great books.

I dug the flick. I owe a lot to the Intruder. It put a roof over my head and food on the table in my youth. Dad was a civilian aircraft mechanic on Intruders at Alameda NAS for 30 years. On his last day before retirement, he took me to the base so I could see where he worked. There was a Prowler suspended on a rack in the shop, and he had his coworkers operate the landing gear so I could see how it worked. I thought that was pretty cool.

Commonly referred to as a Jack and Cycle. It had to be done on a 90 day inspection. The intruder has two hydraulic systems that are powered by four pumps. If the hydraulics go out, the back up to blow the gear down is nitrogen powered. You had to test it every 90 days.

Sounds like your Dad worked out of the airframes side of the house.

Yes, Dad was in the airframes department. He also worked on Corsair IIs and a Skyhawk every once in a while.

Classy, classy aircraft. Particularly the Corsair II. Like the Intruder, not the prettiest, but classy.

I bet your Dad has really cool stories.
