| Why don’t you fix your little problem and light this candle |
Ok so this is pretty new to me. I am just getting started. Not just pinball FX et al. but running a emulator and running virtual boards. Some guys really get into this and build cabinets etc. I dont know if I will go that far but so far it has been a fun puzzle to start trying to put together. any of you guys into virtual pinball? I have dabbled a bit as I love some good pin. I setup an old 43" Toshiba flat screen for my playfield and a monitor to run the rest of the display. All based off an old pc I had sitting around. After a while I looked at building a cabinet and hardware to build a standup unit. It's not complicated, but you can drop some money into it pretty easy. The coolest part for me was all of the different games available and the endless customization. That was about 5 years ago and I've since moved and was never motivated enough to pursue it. All of the games were available free if you knew where to look. Good luck & have fun! Cheers~

I learned a lot from Youtube, and from vpuniverse as well. I am finding it a bit frustrating trying to track down some games and the various bits (mp3 files, etc.). But it is pretty fun
I bought a nice laptop in November and do not use my home computer much. So I thought that 'system' might be a good place to start. I can build the cabinet, but yeah, buying the full hardware kit? About $1300. So I dont think I would go that route. We will see. I am having fun though. This business will get out of control. So here are a couple of videos. Way of the Wrench has a bunch of videos. If you are looking for a new hobby and want to build a really cool system. He is your guy. This video is of his installation of the 'baller installer' which simplifies the installation and setup of virtual pinball. Here is a introduction to Virtual Pinball. I know one thing I am looking into is building a 'interface for basic buttons etc.' and doing a VR build. It would not take up the room of a full cabinet so . . . maybe. As someone who played too much pinball back in the day, this looks spectacular. But between space and finances, not happening. If you want a more accessible pinball experience, for PC's, Gamefest's Pro Pinball classics are great, excellent physics and, on some, pretty special music. Four tables offered, I see them used on ebay, under $30 for all four. I made a choice to stop playing computer games many years ago, too addictive. I've often thought about reinstalling the Pro Pinball games, now I'm thinking hmmm... Take a cheap chance on these if you have a pinball jones, I think you'll agree they'll keep you going until your virtual rig is up and running. Set the controls for the heart of the Sun.

Pinball fx3 is free on Steam. I just got done playing a couple games but they make it very easy to pay for more tables. And those homemade setups look incredible.

I played pinball in the 80's and 90's and always enjoyed it, but then fell away. Grad school and work full time I 'had no time'. My gateway drug was some of the apps. The Williams app is great (love the physics of it etc.). Pinball FX is actually the newer version. So I have way too many tables that I have bought. My 14 year old and I went up to a arcade (about an hour drive)_ and we had a great time mostly playing pinball. The new Godzilla and King Kong and Dungeons and Dragons are exceptional. Loved playing them. But some of the older tables are a lot of fun as well. Attack From Mars being one of the greatest pinball machines of all time. (IMHO). My favorite virtual pin (on PinballFX)is the Indiana Jones table and the Princess Bride. This business will get out of control.
