The trailers are fantastic. Probably won’t see until streaming but I am very much looking forward to it.

Just saw it today and it's worth seeing in the theaters. This was the most savage Godzilla I've ever seen. His first appearance in the film was like watching the T-rex scenes from the first Jurassic Park movie.

This movie had a great storyline and you got invested in the human characters of the movie. It was a truly enjoyable film and the 2 hour runtime went by pretty quick.

Saw it today and agree that it’s very good. Loved the callbacks to the original movie in some of the Tokyo scenes, as well as effective use of the original Godzilla score.

Is this movie subtitled or dubbed in English?
I would like to take the Grand-kids but subtitles are a deal breaker for them.

It is subtitled. No getting around it. Dubs prolly won't show up until the BluRay.

Yeah, I thought this was pretty slick. I think because it's Japanese and made for $15 mil, they can have a darker, serious Godzilla movie made for adults, and not a typical giant blockbuster four-quadrant pleasing amusement park ride type of movie.

I think it helps that the CGI is used tastefully and not obnoxiously. Like, they will show a plane flying, but they won't have the camera pirouetting around the plane and then zooming through the radiator like in an American film.

You mean Godzilla is still . . . big and mean? Like skyscraper big? He isnt pink, and small the size of Kong and sprints to battle shouting "Avengers . . . I mean monsters . . . assemble!!"

Ok, I watched it this afternoon.

OH

MY

GOD

THIS MOVIE IS AMAZING!!!!

It had such a great story. Most 'Godzilla' movies have a weak, if best, 'human' storyline that the monsters interrupt from time to time. Here, the central story was GOOD - it had to do with a Japanese WWII veteran with REALLY bad PTSD, and the aftermath of moving back to Tokyo in the immediate aftermath of the fire-bombing. He tries to rebuild his life with 2 other survivors, all the while they all struggled with the immediate post-war conditions of food shortages, a wrecked city, and lack of utilities. This was educational, especially for those not familiar with Japan's post-war experiences.

It was amazing.

As stated above, the CGI was good to the point of being 'un-noticeable.' When they try too hard, they overdo the CGI (such as the Transformers movies). Here, there was nothing exceedingly fancy that wrecked the laws of physics. No over-the-top effects. Just CGI showing stuff in a realistic and reasonable manner. Godzilla himself was CGI, but looked like a real animal. It wasn't a guy in a suit.
The CGI was used to tell the story without over-shadowing the story. I agree with others in this regard in that I barely noticed the CGI.

Unlike most Godzilla movies, I actually cared about the characters. The main character was sympathetic, and really well written and acted. I liked him and it really pulled me in as he struggled with his inner demons. They showed his PTSD in a realistic way; him waking up from nightmares and suffering survivor's guilt.

They tastefully and honestly addressed Japan's wartime attitudes and culture, and I was literally hooting and cheering when it came to the finale. There was a 'big damn heroes moment' with the Takao, a WWII heavy cruiser which (barely) survived the war. That was just pure awesome, to see the IJN kick butt for a good cause this time. It was a great tribute to the Japanese wartime generation.

No real spoilers, but this Godzilla is somewhat different (and I have seen all the Toho movies, the 'Matthew Broderick Giant Lizard Movie,' and the Legendary films). His atomic breath is unlike anything I've ever seen, and this Godzilla has a REALLY bad attitude. I watched it with two adult nephews at a brewhouse (all of us are Godzilla fans). I had a delicious chicken tender basket (with tap water - I am a reformed alcoholic so I don't touch beer anymore) and a great movie experience. There were maybe a dozen other people in the theater, but it was noon on a Thursday. . .

I think this was the only movie I've seen all year in the theater. I might go back with my wife. Not sure she likes to 'read' her movies - as it is almost entirely in Japanese with subtitles. My hearing sucks, so I didn't complain. I didn't miss any dialog this way.

There was a short bit in English - it was a US Navy report on a missing submarine that encountered Godzilla. For WWII buffs, there was a good bit of scenery pron (besides Takao, some IJN destroyers showed up, along with a VERY cool Japanese combat aircraft).

The wife is a Godzilla fan… so we HAD to see his one in the theater.

I enjoyed it very much. Far more entertaining than the Hip Replacement of Destiny… and made at 1/20th of the price!

This movie avoids the common “pacing” of most CGI-dominated flicks… which makes so many movies predictable WHILE you’re watching. Of course, the story has familiar plot devices, very few movies don’t.

Go, see.

Wife and I went to see it. I loved it and cant wait to see it again. I love how it honored the original movie, AND created a better story of Japan post war.

And Godzilla is pissed.
