If you want to feel better about the the year 2020, watch this and fall to your knees in thanks that it is not 1978. How the hell this franchise survived that ghastly GHASTLY exploit is beyond me. I can tell you Jar Jar Binks is William fuCkin' Shakespeare compared to this travesty.

I know I watched this as a child, but I have almost no recollection. I'm certain it's my minds defense mechanism and not memory fading from age, that is to blame.

We made it about 20 minutes with my kids. I'll bet you can't do better!

I saw it on Tv. It was the first and only Star Wars I knew at the time. Of course, a lot has changed in the past 42 years. . .

It's cringe-worthy in its epic badness.

The Mandalorian paid homage to this show. Mando's disintegration rifle was essentially what Boba Fett used in that show, and the first episode had the blue guy trying to get to "Life Day."

A must have for any Star Wars collection!

I found this on DVD a few years back. The uncut & unedited version. Made it all the way through somehow.

The movie isn't one to cast aside lightly, it must be thrown with great force.

I was 7 when that aired. Said something to my parents like, "This is terrible. Why did they even make it?"
Dad: "Money."

I remember watching it when it first aired. I kept thinking it has to get better.

Nope. As much disdain as I have for the sequel trilogy, they're still better than the Holiday Special. Also better than the Ewok movies too.

The Lego Star Wars Christmas special is worth watching. It’s very funny. And it’s set on Life Day as well.

My parents went to Montgomery Ward that night and I ran over to the TVs to watch it. It didn't take long to figure out that it wasn't gonna be the Star Wars I was hoping for. It was bad even for a ten year old.

Remember, at the time there was nothing else. When this aired we were just so happy to be getting more Star Wars!! Big Grin

So you can understand how let down we were watching it. It was more Muppet Show than Star Wars and we were shocked and confused.

I've seen it twice in my life. Once when it aired, and once about five years ago. I'm good.

There’s a holiday special Lego version out on Disney + right now.

It’s reported that Carrie Fisher begged Lucas for a copy and would put it in when she wanted a party at her house to be over and guests to leave.

Yes. I agree, it was all we had. I remember watching it at a friend's house during a sleepover and we were unable to process what we were watching or how to feel about it.

I somehow have managed to avoid this abomination or more than likely have managed to block any memories of watching it. I would have been 7 y/o when this came out and Star Wars was my entire life, so I can’t see how I would have missed this. More than likely I was so traumatized I have repressed the memories of utter disappointment and betrayal. I got through most of the opening credits and decided... nope!

That was it right, the public and press was so taken with A New Hope, that they couldn't get enough, TV execs went begging to Lucas for a made for TV special; 'make sure there's that kooky bar scene with all those aliens hanging-out' was a likely insistence.

They backed up the money truck, and Lucas threw a bunch of shit against the wall and said, here you go, thanks for the check, I'll add it to the one's from Kenner and Burger King.
