Yodeling fans here will know that Oesch’s die Dritten have graced the pages of The Lair before but always in a more lighthearted way. For Christmas, a more reverent direction seems fitting. These two videos are from the same performance – a Swiss TV Christmas special in 2014. Melanie was in top form that night and her voice seems more angelic than usual. If you have them, decent speakers are recommended.


This first video is the more somber and moving of the two. It is “Die stille Zeit ruft” or “The quiet time calls”. The song is about the quiet time of Christmas and her giving a yodel from the heart to all the loved ones she can’t forget. A hauntingly beautiful song.





The second video is “Ein Jodler für’s Christkind” or “A yodel for the Christ Child”. It is about Christmas time and a yodel for the Christ Child sounding through the night. This one is a bit lighter and happier but it is still a lovely Christmas song.
