Here are our 1977 MGBs. We drive these and love them.

If there any other British car owners here, we are having a car show next weekend, June 18, at Petit Jean mountain, near Morrilton, Arkansas and expect 100 British cars, with people coming from across the country.

Beautiful MGB’s!! I’ll post up the pic for you if you don’t mind. I’ve always loved the MGB.

In high school I started to restore a Triumph Spitfire 1500 but the project stalled when my father and I realized we would have to lift up the engine to get the new header to fit. The previous exhaust manifold cracked and caused a small fire inside the engine bay. I believe the catalytic converter came apart and clogged the exhaust leading to a cracked manifold.

This is why we were able to get an incredibly clean example with 32,000 original miles and years of sitting in a garage neglected (which sadly is what it’s doing right now). We did get it running and drove it around the neighborhood but because of the cracked exhaust manifold being close to the carburetor we only drove it once during our attempt to fix it up.

Ours looks pretty close to this.

I love how the bonnet/hood on the Spitfire opens.

always wanted, never had the time to wrench on one,

Dad had a MGA for a short time,
it never left the driveway, meaning it was never licensed, but I did run it down the road once and our driveway at the shop is a big loop,

it was a hardtop, with some rather severe body rot,

not sure why he bought it, other than to tempt me ,,,

wife's besty sold off her TR6 a year or so ago, it had constant issues, mostly from lack of driving ,

her (wife's besty) ex husband still has a sweet TR4a

not heard much out of the local clubs

Richmond Triumph Registry and the Central Va British Car Club used to have shows here in RVA often,

When I was in the service, I had a roommate with an MGC. It was the 6 cylinder version of the 'B' and was distinguishable by a little bump in the hood. We had fun in it back in the early 70's. My exposure to it probably is the reason I've owned 4 convertibles in the last 25 years.

I started my sports car love with a '58 TR3a acquired back in 1966. Owner, who was selling due to health issues, had prepped it for competing at Watkins Glen with a beefed up suspension, factory 121.5 cid bored out to 150 cid and the SUs replaced with Weber sidedrafts. Absolutely loved that car.

A good buddy had an MG at the time and we enjoyed carving the back roads of upstate NY together. Fun times!

Like mccrimm I've had a number of two seater ragtops over the years.

My first car was a 75 MGB in 1980. Remember going to get it serviced at the MG/Triumph dealer. They had the last of the new B's, TR7's, TR8's, and Spitfires. That started my love affair with British cars. Have had numerous B's, an A, TR6, E Types, and others over the past 42 years. Currently without one but actively shopping for a nice chrome bumper B. Wish I was nearby to go to your show-

My first ever car was a semi-restored 1953 MG-TD. I drove it to college, and kept it those 4 years. When I got my first job, I needed more reliable day-to-day transportation, so I sold it and bought a 1968 Chevy Nova. The MG was a blast to drive, but came with some downsides, like side curtains instead of roll-up windows. The side curtains were not exactly weatherproof, as they would bellow out at higher speeds and let the rain in. Also, the vacuum operated wiper motor left something to be desired. And of course it had the original anti-theft device, a Lucas starter motor.

Very nice! My Dad had an MGA and I miss it. I’d pick up a B if the right situation presented itself.

I wouldn't mind one, if I had somewhere to park it (soon to be garage-less).

For me, I prefer the early small bumper B
Got a brief spin in a Spitfire, fun little car, and was pretty shocking sitting next to a Duramax 3500 at a light & having to crane my neck to see its driver.
I used to see what I think was a Jag XK, or very similar, my wife saw it a few times & was smitten.
Also got some seat time in a TR6, and that seemed a more 'muscle' Brit car compared to the above. Lot of fun.

Not British, but my dad briefly had a Datsun 1600 that turned out to be much more of a project than he thought. Got it running & flipped it to a new owner.
Really like these as well, and probably [assumption] a bit more reliable than its Brit counterparts.

I have a Land-Rover Series III 88 that I need to get running again. Normally I'd head down to the event but am looking after an elderly parent and have a limited radius of time that I can be away.

Would love to see any pictures that you might get of the cars at the show.

Not a picture of the actual car here, but my Dad bought a 1972 or 1973 Triumph GT-6 much like this one brand-new back in the day.

My uncle was and remains a consummate “car guy” and I was always glad to visit him during my childhood to see what set of wheels he had at the time. Among his cars at various times was a Jaguar XKE and a Triumph TR-8.

Very nice! A friend had one long ago. It was fun to drive, especially w/ the top down. But it being repaired more than it was being driven.

I'd like to get a small, sporty convertible some day. But a reliable one....

Honda S2000 (AP2 in Suzuka Blue)
Mazda Miata (NB2 or ND2)

The first two that pop up in my mind, with my own preference behind.

Porsche Boxster a possible 3rd.

I'm starting to think Miatas are must-haves.

It's the car you race while the racecar's broken, which is not seldom for most of us.

I'd love a NB2, specifically a Shinsen Edition. There's only 1 in the US that I can find, with a manual, for sale. 50k-ish miles, $14k price. Too high for me, and too far, being in NJ.
Otherwise, ND soft top all the way, ND2 for the bump in redline.

A year and a half ago I started this thread about getting the TR6 I have wanted since I was 15 for my 65th birthday.

https://sigforum.com/eve/forum...935/m/2700003774/p/1

About a year ago I bought one! I never revived that thread because I did not know how to post pictures and it would be worthless without pictures. Now I do (Thanks again RogueJSK!)

So here she is

I have on order an MX5 RF Club, supposed to deliver in July, but it is looking likely August.
Wanted a 2 seater roadster, but did not want to spend Porsche money (and Porsche maintenance and repairs). When I was a kid, I always liked the look of the Triumph Spitfire hardtop and the Opal GT, so naturally I chose the Miata RF.
