Peace through superior firepower |
Sam Fuller's CinemaScope, color remake of the 1948 film noir The Street With No Name was the first American film shot in Japan after WWII. This film is widely accepted to be part of the Film Noir canon, which reinforces my point that there are really no essential elements to the style. Widescreen aspect ratios and color cinematography are not normally associated with film noir. It's not necessary for a film to be shot in B&W and presented in the Academy ratio in order to qualify as film noir, though almost all in the canon are shot and presented that way. Joe MacDonald was the cinematographer on this film and The Street With No Name, both. Robert Ryan always made for a great psycho. Lots of fun. 10 PM tonight on TCM.

Thanks. Enjoyed Ryan's performance in Beware, My Lovely. Plays the creepy Psycho quite well.
