I can remember the day I installed the demo for this game and then purchased it when it came out.

If that doesn’t make you feel old…first game installed on my first computer build. Love the story, along with the Opposing Forces add-on. Spent waaaaaay too much time playing Counterstrike in college, especially with a server 7 floors beneath you in the dorms!

I honestly do not believe any game has ever had such a great opening. The whole ride in on the transport was incredible. I recently purchased the HD rebuild called "Black Mesa" but I have not played it through yet.

Is Black Mesa out? Or like a remaster?

I started with Portal and never got Half Life. Is it worth going back to it? I’m more into puzzle games like Portal and Myst. Not really into FPS although I did enjoy Red Dead Redemption. Skip or hit up Steam?

Same here. There were weekends that I’d straight up forget to eat during a marathon Counterstrike session. I LOVED Half Life.

Half Life 2 has more puzzles than the first, but both are FPS first and foremost. I think that both are absolutely worth playing, especially if you can appreciate them as products of their time.

Growing up during the golden era of Half Life modding was great as I couldn’t afford new games very often. Day of Defeat, The Specialists, BrainBread, Firearms, Battle Grounds, Hostile Intent.

I worked in computer engineering lab for a brief time in college. We had a ping pong table that we'd use to blow off steam for 10-15 minutes. One day the dean of the college heard the ping pong sounds and he made us get rid of it. Ping pong quickly got replaced with Counter Strike. Now instead of 2 guys taking a few minutes to relax, you had 10 people spending hours running around the building killing each other (one guy built a map that was the building we were in). good times.
