Angela Lansbury dies age 96

I enjoyed her work from the Classic movie Gaslight to Murder She Wrote.

Above all else, she is- to me- most notable for playing the evilest female villain ever to appear on the silver screen.

Hey, it wasn't her idea to turn her son into a brainwashed political assassin, but when life gives you lemons...

"I know you will never entirely comprehend this, Raymond, but you must believe I did not know it would be you. I served them. I fought for them. I'm on the point of winning for them the greatest foothold they would ever have in this country. And they paid me back by taking your soul away from you. I told them to build me an assassin. I wanted a killer from a world filled with killers and they chose you because they thought it would bind me closer to them. But now, we have come almost to the end. One last step. And then when I take power, they will be pulled down and ground into dirt for what they did to you. And what they did in so contemptuously underestimating me." - Eleanor Shaw Iselin, The Manchurian Candidate

When I think of her in The Manchurian Candidate as one of the vilest movie villains, I also think about how unnaturally, creepily close she was to her son. She could also play a sweet, but tough, lady. My first recollection as a young boy of her in the movies was her role in Bednobs and Broomsticks. She was an excellent actress.

When I told my Daughter of her passing she told me she had just watched Gaslight last night. She also agreed with Para that her favorite role was in the Manchurian Candidate.

Her first movie was Gaslight. 17 years old during production. The role got her nominated for an Academy Award. Seems her best roles were portraying evil women.

There won't be anymore murders in Cabot Cove. The Cabot Cove serial killer just died.

And, political and community leaders today, continually twist themselves into knots, attempting to explain why people are leaving urban centers... Lansbury knew the issues and took action, fortunately she had the means to do so.

Every time I go into Mendocino, I'm reminded of Lansbury and the opening credits of Murder She Wrote as that's where it was filmed, a tranquil, idilic coastal village

Great pull, Manchurian Candidate was a movie I loved but it's been years. Time I revisited it.

Nothing against her, I think she was a fine actress and did good work... but my late mother in law loved to watch "Murder She Wrote" and I came up with a cinematography term: "The Angela Lansbury Effect"... when ever there was a close up of her she was slightly out of focus. Watch an episode and it will be obvious.
