This find is huge. 2 weeks after they released their first album and only had 3 singles out. Before the screaming started. Still mainly a cover band, and a full hour long. Recorded on April 4th, 1963 Roxburgh Hall Stowe School Stowe, Buckinghamshire. George not singing due to a sore throat. Ringo sings 2 songs. Sound quality lousy [AI brought the vocals up & cut some of the distortion]. Before the days of bands bringing their own sound equipment, just 2 30 watt guitar amps, a 50 watt bass amp & drums. Used the house PA. Taper [a student] put the mic front and center, the result being too much for the mic to handle] If the mic was placed few rows back, the results would have been better [see picture below]. They were tight players that night! Listening is more enjoyable than I expected, and Apple didn't buy it and bury it [as with 1962 TV appearances audio & Spring 1962 Cavern Club full show with Pete Best]. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ "Yidn, shreibt un fershreibt" "The Nazis entered this war under the rather childish delusion that they were going to bomb everyone else, and nobody was going to bomb them. At Rotterdam, London, Warsaw and half a hundred other places, they put their rather naive theory into operation. They sowed the wind, and now they are going to reap the whirlwind." -Bomber Harris

People don't typically see the Beatles as a live band but they definitely honed their craft big time playing in Hamburg. That's how the band got tight. Amazing how much they pushed those AC30s. Vox started making bigger amps because of the Beatles. They weren't gear guys, they used Vox because Vox had a handshake deal with Brian Epstein to use their amps if they were provided. That deal died when Brian died. Then they went to Fender but Fender provided them the amps. As well as the rooftop concert was documented, I've still yet to listen to a full version without cuts for spectator comments. _____________
