Just watched the 1983 movie "The Outsiders"

https://archive.org/details/th...heatricalcut#reviews

The Outsiders is a 1983 American coming-of-age crime drama film directed by Francis Ford Coppola. The film is an adaptation of the 1967 novel of the same name by S. E. Hinton and was released on March 25, 1983, in the United States. Jo Ellen Misakian, a librarian at Lone Star Elementary School in Fresno, California, and her students were responsible for inspiring Coppola to make the film.[1]

The film is noted for its cast of up-and-coming stars, including

C Thomas Howell
Rob Lowe
Emilio Estevez
Matt Dillon
Tom Cruise
Patrick Swayze
Ralph Macchio
Diane Lane

Recommend you don't read too much about the story before you watch. Sort of ruins the movie.

Until just now when I Googled, I had no idea that S.E. Hinton was a woman. I had no real reason to think otherwise, but just always assumed it was a man who had written that book.

It was required reading in school and I remember really liking it. I liked the film too. Might have to check it out again.

That's a cool site - Had no idea it existed

I saw the outsiders at the drive in back in the 80s. Sound came thru radio speakers so we'd take a pick up and lawn chairs and sit under the stars.

Fantastic film with one hell of a star studded cast!

S.E. Hinton abbreviated her name for exactly that reason Gustofer.

Classic book and even more classic movie.

When coming of age movies weren't so...polarizing.

Great movie with an all-star cast in their early years. I consider it to be one of the classics that I keep in my collection.

Must've read this book 3 or 4 times as a kid. This one and Rumble Fish.

Lots of young talent in that movie.
